Why? - 668710
Supposedly unhappy with the way Brind'amour is using him. Also he and his wife had a miscarriage this year after publicly announcing the pregnancy so there's that as well. |

I definitely prefer Granlund, too.
1. He's a rental so he should be cheaper. Easy out at the end of the season if he's not a fit and we can always extend or offer him a contract if he is a fit. He's also having a worse year than Zucker so he should be cheaper there, too.
2. He can play center so he could fill a need in a pinch.
3. He might be more of a RW which I think is more of a need. On the flip side, I don't know if he can play LW effectively.
4. Granlund has a better body of work and is a more consistent producer.
Ironically, they were both drafted by MIN in 2010, Granlund in the 1st round (9th overall) and Zucker in the 2nd round (59th overall).
I think it's possible that NSH might be interested in either Galch or Schultz. They need help on the PP and they also need to replace Ellis. They could also use a LW. - Hockey66
Ideally we'd want NSH to take Galch+something small for Granlund and MIN to take Bjugstad + something small for Zucker.
Granlund should be cheaper, as you said, but I think they do need another long term top 6 guy and it just seems nearly impossible we re-sign him $5.5M or less.
And you still have some work to do if you're going to convince me about Suter as a viable option haha. Im sure due to his age we couldnt ditch him in the expansion draft.

Ideally, yes, but I think it will take more than "something small" to get those guys. I see both Galch and Bjug as having neutral and maybe even negative trade value.
Good point about a long term winger costing more, unless we trade for a winger in the offseason (as opposed to a FA signing). IIRC, off-season trades are usually cheaper than in-season trades. If JR and Sully want to keep McCann at 3C, then Zucker looks like the better option for top 6 LW going forward.
Regarding Suter, just throwing ideas out there. Simultaneously getting rid of JJ and Bjug and significantly bolstering our defense for the next 3 years is what appeals to me. Of course, years 4-6 are likely problematic. But who knows, maybe by then $7.5M will be like $5M now and he'd probably still have a blistering slap shot on the PP. |

That's seems pretty reasonable. MIN might want a little better draft pick, maybe a 3rd or a 2nd. |

I would look for a geuntzel clone. Smart about the puck with putting himself in position to anticipate what Crosby will do. Someone with hockey smarts that will mesh with Crosby's. Almost all other points are moot.
Except maybe will that player mesh likewise with Malkin as that whose line he would be moved to when Jake comes back. (this year? or next year?) |

Not sure if this has been floated, but is Kapanen done in Toronto? |

Is Zucker that worth it that gmjr should be so set on getting him. He doesn’t seem like anything special. |

I just read up on this. This happened at a fan STH event...yet no one ever mentioned a grown man attacking a child.
Also, the father's original complaint was about a lousy picture, then mentioned the incident after being told he couldn't get a refund.
Very unfortunate if something did happen, but it sounds like extortion. |

With Muzzin and Reilly on LTIR they are forced to make a move, so I guess he's a possible piece to replace their D. |

I wouldn't mind the Pens trying to make a deal of Schultz + for Hyman |

I'd rather Hyman. Cheap middle six guy, good for around 20 goals / 40 points, decent all around game. One more season on his contract and the "+" would be less than Kapanen. |

We do have a good bit of middle six guys though. You watch Toronto much? I haven't so idk how anyone looks this year. I remember Hyman a little though. |

I read repeatedly that he often was the best guy on the Tavares line, doubt that Leafs rate him lower than Kapanen or even want to trade him.
I think we will end with Toffoli.

Hyman scores goals and points at a higher rate per 60 than Kapanen for what it’s worth. |

I always loved that they got Phil, but hated parting with Kapanen in the deal. He is so fast and could fill the Guentzel gap. |

Anyone watch Tough Guy yet? Watched it with my girl last night. She’s fairly new to hockey, she’s like “holy poop, they used to fight for real!” Kind of hard to believe how the red wings pretty much would do quick cleanup jobs on Probert and send him out there to die for them over and over. Hell of a (frank)ing hockey player. Loved the part when Steve Y said at the all star game everyone just wanted to meet Probie, Gretzky,Messier. Sad the guy couldn’t keep his shot together better. |

I guess Kap is slumping or something. I thought he use to be paired with Matthews and that line worked well. |

I love Kapanen. Wish we still had him. The trade worked out for both sides though. Rumor out of Toronto is that they don't want to trade him unless it is for a significant player coming back which I assume rules us out of the running currently.
I have a feeling Bjugstad returns to us after the break as well as Schultz. I think this might be the year JR waits it out until the deadline to make a deal. I think a lot of teams feel they are still in the playoff race.
I still feel a Galchenyuk for AA swap (or similar deal) happens due to both players having very minimal trade value, but potential to improve with a change of scenery (plus I think JR is itching to make a trade). I don't really see us having a lot of players with high trade value which JR is willing to trade. Sadly Bjugstad, and Schultz if JR were to make him available seem like they would have lower value at this point due to consistent injuries. |

I still think having a Galchenyuk and not playing him with your teams best offensive players is the dumbest thing I’ve seen Sullivan do. Trading for Reaves and then preaching Disney on ice is up there too. Playing Simon with the best playmaker in the world is up there too. |

TOR needs LDs bad. I would trade either Petts+ or JJ+ but I doubt they consider them "significant" haha
I think you are right about Bjug and Schultz coming back and JR waiting until the deadline for the reason you mention. STL last year kind of gave teams hope that they can catch fire and potentially win a Cup. I also think the trade values of Bjug and Schultz are close to nil.
The only two teams I see as maybe being interested in Galch are BUF and NSH (bubble teams in need of PP help). He is another player who has minimal value, if any IMO, but will probably be used to balance out salaries in a trade with valuable assets being added by the Pens. |
