Like many players they are more valuable to their team than what they might fetch. In Tanev’s case more like invaluable given their PO push & his role being Hughes partner. He’s easily worth a 2nd but it makes no sense.

Ran into 2 hot good teams at the wrong time. Stopped a 7 game win streak dead in it’s tracks but right back on the rails right after. Imo it showed the Canucks the league is highly competitive & can change fortunes in a hurrt. Using that comparison the Leafs miss the PO’s unless a WC spot which looks like a risky go of it these days. Not hating on the Leafs but warts were showing before D injuries. No matter what it’s shaping up as a great run for the PO races league wide.

Cap hit doesn’t matter. His age doesn’t mesh with the roster for when they are a PO team. His contract is no easy move but if can get assets/picks then do it.

Dillon had 1 good year (2018-19). If that's the main piece that the Leafs are getting back in a deal for Kapanen, I hope the other piece is a first round draft pick and only considered subsidiary because it's not an actual player.

The Sharks don't have a first round pick until the year 2030 Wilson trades those like candy

Kapanen for Dillon? Sure Dillon would fill a need for size and toughness on the back end for the Leafs but he's a UFA at seasons end. Trading a good young asset for a UFA D-man ain't happening
