I like Calgary over St Louis in a seven gamer

Blues would bully them, only hope would be for Tkachuk to turtle and draw penalties.

Yup & now that I dont have such high expectations for him, I am quite comfortable what he brings to the team. & yeah if I was able to go back in time & do over knowing what we know now, I would say Pastrnak, Larkin, Ehlers are all guys I would have taken before him now. Oh well

For context...

Benny is contributing less to the Flames today than Troy Brouwer did 2 years ago when we, as fans, were celebrating paying the guy "only" $1.5M for 4 years to NOT play for this team.

Factually, this is where Bennett's game is right now. < Troy Brouwer

If he was even coming close to mirroring his production from last year, I could maybe get on board for justifying $2.5M.

Pretty much. I think he could be a successful guy in another situation. If the Oil came knocking with Puljujaarvi for Bennett, give both guys a fresh start, I'd be jumping on that train faster than dealing Looch for a bag of pucks and 50% cap relief (well, maybe just as fast)

I think he's topped out for what he's going to do in a Flames uni, and maybe playing elsewhere with a legit concerted effort to put him in a top 6 situation changes things for him, but I don't think it's in the cards in Calgary.

Might also be a Backlund type that develops later in his career, hope for the best for the kid, but I just can't see it here for whatever reason.

I was pretty high on him during his draft year. He had the right combination of skill, skating and toughness. The dude just can't translate his offense to be anything more than a role player at the NHL level. I thought both he and Drai would be stars lol

And I thought Drai was overrated to begin with.

He would've looked good in a Flames jersey.

Yeah, hindsight on that one - seemed to be knocks on his skating back then - don't really see that being a concern in real world scenario.

Benny was the top ranked guy according to some, but for whatever reason, hasn't hit the potential that he showed in Jr. poop happens

Draisaitl was off the board anyway. Hindsight I guess they could have picked Ehlers or Larkin but who knows. IMO it's a crap shoot who is able to play at the much faster pace in the NHL At least Bennett can skate and hit but that pretty much makes him a 4th liner if he can't put up points. Also think the time to move him has passed. His value is so low right now they may as well keep him and hope he can figure something out.
