Speaking of Suter and Parise, if it is believed that "the window" for the Pens is 2-3 years (with which I agree), maybe the back half of these terrible contracts will be irrelevant for the Pens (or be amnestied with the new CBA). Worth looking into, IMO.

Suter would be a good Dumo replacement in the short term (and would kick Petts to the third pair which is probably where he belongs when Dumo returns). Would also allow Dumo to be somewhat sheltered on the 2nd pair as he recovers. Would probably be able to get rid of JJ and, say, Bjug. MIN benefits long-term, Pens benefit short-term. Salaries match up.

Same goes for Parise, but instead send them Bjug and Galch.

No ... I mean MIN would have to keep sweetening the deal with picks and prospects and they def won't do thay... so no. no reason to purposely acquire the two of the worst contracts in the league

What if pens/wild made a trade for Suter and had JJ going the other way? Wild could also retain some salary depending on what the pens send as a sweetener.

Two 35 year olds? I'd take them if they were bought out and they came at 700k.

Amen to that. No need to add old guys on extremely onerous contracts. Get a rental or pay a premium for a young wing with term.

People female doging about getting Kovalchuk at 700k and now we want Parise AND Suter at even half retained is absurd.

1. Improve defense with 1LD for next 2-3 years while ridding a bad contract of a 3LD (JJ) and a useless / always injured $4.1 mil player who is under contract for next season, too (Bjug).

2. Improve winger with a 1LW for next 2-3 years while ridding useless $9M in salary this season and useless $4.1M next season.

I'd be more inclined to do option 1 but I think both players will be good the next 2-3 years (which includes this season) and in 3 years Crosby and Malkin will be 36 and 37 years old respectively.

So we're talking about getting rid of expensive useless players that probably nobody really wants for 1st line players for "the window." Sign me up! Plus, we keep all of our draft picks and prospects to use in later deals either this year or in the future to bolster the lineup.

But do you agree that beyond 3 years of their contracts is largely irrelevant? Also, we're talking about getting 1LD and/or 1LW, not 2nd pairing defensemen or 2nd line wingers.

And we're getting out of an extremely onerous contract of our own (JJ).

Who’s the broad commentator on NBCS? She’s worse than Pierre. Cringeworthy.

Honestly, I believe if JR continues to put youth and speed around Geno and Sid, the Pens can stay relevant for a little longer than two or three years. JMO....Adding a couple of old guys with term would slam the window shut possibly sooner than need be.

Not really because if we keep infusing GOOD young players there's a possibility of more than 3 years. Gotta get lucky too but I'd rather keep going the route we are now.

Fair enough. I just like the idea of getting top line players for our expensive garbage. I'd say there are pluses and minuses to either route.

Also, if you think they will be relevant a little longer than 2-3 years, then we should probably try to hang on to as many draft picks and prospects as possible. But...Parise and Suter will not be very relevant at that point, other than their big salaries.

This, you just beat me. I mean Jagr was still great at 38-40 I believe Sid can still be great but he'll need Guentzel and another good young winger. Idk about Geno we'll see what happens with him haha.

Right, but we can trade picks and prospects for say Rakell which would be great value.

Well, it's just hard to infuse good young players while keeping high draft picks and prospects (i.e., good young players) and getting rid of our useless / expensive players at the same time. You have to give to get so there will be sacrifices somewhere.
