Blake Coleman would be a nice sneaky add for relatively cheap IMO

Isn’t the goal to add a top 6 guy?

The Wild definitely have a need for Bjugstad. I'm guessing JR and Guerin already have a deal in place as soon as Bjug gets healthy / come back from the all star break.

Either way it doesn’t take a ton to get guys.

Nyquist while not a star player went for a 2nd and conditional 3rd.

Johansson went for a 2nd and a 4th.

Zuc went for a 2nd and a 3rd.

These were all pure rentals but you can see that you can get quality forwards for cheap.

I don't disagree. I was simply pointing out why Hall went for less than he should have.

I've been thinking the same for a while. He also seems more like a Western style player and he's from Minnesota. And yes, I think at least one major Pens trade happens in the next week or so.

That Spurgeon contract was ill-timed. They really could have waited.

A couple of problems with that is that a few of their good players have prohibitively expensive / long contracts and supposedly their owner is against a full rebuild (supposedly why Guerin got the job over others).

But yes, it's probably what they *should* do (or at least try).

Nobody needs Bjugstad lol. He sucks and can’t stay healthy.

"He is excellent defensively, creates a ton of chances at 5v5, and very few – if any – can kill penalties like him. He’s an absolute puck hound. His aggressiveness, combined with closing speed and hustle, lends itself to so many turnovers that result in odd-man rushes the other way.

It’s not a stretch to say he has no equal offensively. He’s tied for the league-lead in shorthanded goals since the beginning of 2017-18 and nobody is touching him in terms of chance generation.

Coleman has been credited with 58 scoring chances on the PK. Michael Grabner slots 2nd with 46 while Brandon Saad (41) is the only other player above 40."

22 goals last season and 19 goals in 48 games this season and signed for 1.8million next season as well. This being done centered by... Travis Zajac... Plays LW mostly now but also has played center and RW. Definitely wouldnt mind that on our team thats for god damned sure.

If Billy G told the owner anything but "rebuild" when he took the job he's screwed. Probably should just rent a home if the owner has delusions of contending. That team needs torn down to the studs.

If the next CBA is anything like the last one, he'll get two "get out of jail free" buyouts in two years. That will expedite things a little.

Sounds like AA, like Green, like... yes, like a lot of Wings. At least they have an edge in golfing, as they can -again- comfortably arrange their April schedule already mid January.

Because they are 2nd last in the league and definitely arent close to contending.

I definitely think he’s a Sully type player. Wouldn’t mind acquiring him but as a middle-bottom 6 guy I feel like we have so many of those. He’s like another version of Bryan Rust before the steroids.

Had he told the owners rebuild he may not have gotten the job lol while I agree with everything you said; I just don’t know if any owner especially one in a market like Minny wants to hear those words.

considering what happened with Fenton you would think he'd be more amenable to the idea.

Of course, Leipold is the one who went all in on Suter and Parise too.

Speaking of Suter and Parise, if it is believed that "the window" for the Pens is 2-3 years (with which I agree), maybe the back half of these terrible contracts will be irrelevant for the Pens (or be amnestied with the new CBA). Worth looking into, IMO.

Suter would be a good Dumo replacement in the short term (and would kick Petts to the third pair which is probably where he belongs when Dumo returns). Would also allow Dumo to be somewhat sheltered on the 2nd pair as he recovers. Would probably be able to get rid of JJ and, say, Bjug. MIN benefits long-term, Pens benefit short-term. Salaries match up.

Same goes for Parise, but instead send them Bjug and Galch.

JJ is an OK 3 rd pairing guy. In that position he is harmless, generally but expensive, IMHO.
