If the Jack Adams including a category for setting your team up for long-term success by drafting 1st overall then he'd be the runaway. |

On a side note, while I have not watched any Wild games since they played the Pens just looking over the some stats it seems like Zucker is continuing to struggle since returning from injury.
Leg surgery is definitely no easy task to bounce right back from, so one has to wonder how much he'd help the Pens right now. |

Tatar > Zucker - Feds91Stammer
The only reason I think Zucker is more attainable than Tatar is the Guerin connection and that's tenuous at best. |

Yah, I can see that. Montreal is also really close to being a good team too. Strong underlying numbers. If they can get a two week stretch of wins post all star game they might actually buy. |

First of all, the physical element of the game was part of the fabric of the game for decades. It wasn't just a bunch of goons beating the snot out of each other. Hockey was meant to be a physical game (like the NFL and boxing) and was much more enjoyable to watch until you youngsters started whining about how it was too violent. It wasn't a mainstream sport because of the violence but it will never be anything more than the number 4 sport anyway. It was a niche sport that had a rabid, cult-like following among a core base of passionate fans. While I still love hockey, it has become lame compared to the days when players like Ulf Sammelson and Darius Kasperitis, and Matthew Barnaby were heroes. Funny how people still stand and cheer whenever someone gets laid out with a solid but legal open ice hit or even when gloves are dropped. Also funny how this new generation of hockey fans points to speed and offensive production as the real catalyst for today's NHL yet, back when the physical element of the game was significant, guys like Gretzky and Lemieux were scoring close to 100 goals and putting up 200 points in a season (and yes I know Mario actually peaked at 199 points). You can call me a retard or a dinosaur or whatever else you want to call me but, if you haven't seen a game prior to 2000, you have no idea what real NHL hockey is all about. The game was so much more fun to watch than today's version. It had a little bit of everything, including way more scoring than today's NHL. - Rented Mule 66
The reason those players were scoring 200 points is because the league was so diluted from expansion that 3rd and 4th liners weren't very good and they could put up monster points. Also, the goalies sucked, were smaller, and had way smaller equipment. There was not a full-time goalie coach in the NHL until 1983. Watch those games and you'll easily see why there were so many goals being scored, it had a lot to do with the goalies.
Save Percentage .910 GAA 2.81 in 18-19 season
Save Percentage .881 GAA 3.56 in 89-90 season
I like the physical play and am fine with a hard hitting game, as long as it is legal. Hits to the head are no longer legal for obvious reasons (CTE). I'm fine with fighting as well and think it has a place in the game. |

If we go after anyone from Nashville it should be Craig Smith, if they would want to move him. His 5v5 production is the equal of Zucker or Granlund with underlying numbers that are through the roof. |

Zucker is also locked up longer and younger. Would be real nice to get a winger that we can just have for the remaining time we have before Crosby, Malkin, and Letang become skating corpses. My list probably goes:
1. Zucker
2. Tatar
3. Saad
4. Kreider
5. Hoffman
6. Toffoli
7. Kane |

Montreal just lacks finishers to take advantage of their underlying numbers. Need both if you want to be a contender |

Drouin and Gallagher will help next year provided they stay healthy. I don’t think they are too far from competing. It just doesn’t help when more than likely 5 metro teams are playoff bound so you need to crack that top 3. |

I refuse to acknowledge this sort of negativity. As a fan of a team that is largely successful due to winning a couple draft lotteries I find your post to be extremely insensitive. The league is better when Detroit is good. You have been reported. |

"Honestly, Jack Johnson must have done something bad to this blogger's family. I know he isn't the best defenseman to ever wear the flightless bird on the front of his jersey but damn dude, give it a break for a little while. I swear EVERY article is an attack on JJ. There must be a personal vendetta driving this onslaught of negativity. I've been watching hockey probably longer than this blogger has been alive and there have been far worse defensemen than Johnson come and go over the years. Also, this millennial ideology that all these fancy stats tell the whole story of a player's value is just silly. Even if JJ is the worst defenseman to ever play the position, writing something negative about the same player 4 out of every 5 articles is just getting real stale. I know it isn't actually 4 out of 5, it just seems that way. There is an unhealthy obsession there, that's for sure"
JJ doesn't only play defence in the NHL, his second job is living rent free in Ryan's and so many peoples head. It is rather comical to log onto this site a few times a year and see Ryan screaming, kicking and crying about JJ. Then again the is what hockeybuzz is all about, supporting bloggers that can't be taken seriously!! |

Yah, I wasn't sure were Gallagher and Drouin were injury wise. They are probably too far out of position, but you never know. |

Personally I wouldn't touch Kane with a ten foot pole. He's far too much of a liability and has cost the Sharks plenty. Everyone else on that list I like and will always gravitate toward players under term, but as I've said I think the Pens should be getting one rental and one player under term this year.
I think Toffoli or Granlund + either Zucker, Tatar or Saad would be great. I don't bring up Hoffman because I'll believe he gets traded when I see it. |
