This is the issue with the Leafs getting so much more press and so many more fans, people think they are in the worst cap situation and almost no one is against the cap.
Over half the league is right against the cap. And i've got news for you, if Bobrovskly was signed in Toronto it would universally be known as the worst NHL contract. There is no contract on the Leafs close to that one.
Why is Vancouver in "Cap Hell" never making the playoffs and Pettersen not signed? - RogerRoeper
Brag and predict when appropriate there Roger - and now is not the time when Leafs lost 5 of 6 going into the break against some mediocre teams. Pettersson is not signed because he still has this year and next on his entry level deal. Vancouver has some lousy contracts but Miller is actually looking pretty good and unlike the Leafs, the Nucks are currently in a playoff spot. At least be objective enough to realize that Pettersson drafted fifth overall was probably the best player selected in his draft year - only one close is probably Makar. Give credit where it is due. |

If?
cool.
If Tarasenko is injured going into the playoffs they might not even have him for playoffs.
Playing what ifs is fun. - Santo_44
sigh.
doesn't change the fact your numbers were wrong.
seabrook is on the shelf for the year. hawks will have at least $4.1M of space (but unpossible to have more, cause nothing else can happen except shaw and de hann coming off of ltir). |

Johnsson and Ceci for Petry. We get Petry and we lose Ceci..
So, win/win - PatC80
Habs will get a better offer than this IMO if they make Petry available.
Petry also has a modified NTC (15 teams on the no trade list) |

Bergevin will pull his half rebuild move and do close to nothing.
Letting the Habs draft just outside the top 10 again. |

Seabrook will be a guest on Robidas Island with a facefull of coke a day for the rest of his career. Makes sense, Chicago cheats more than any team when it comes to the cap. The Hossa rash/injury was bs, this will also be the same, and Duncan Keith soon after.

If Babrovsky gets his crap together Florida is a force. Sitting in a playoff spot with one of the worst tending in the league - for the whole year so far.
Leafs are in tough. |
|

Pretty wrong there man.
Check it out. Arizona and the Sabres have the exact same cap space as the Leafs.
The Bruins have a whopping 715$ more. Yes that is 715 hundred.
Dallas is a close tie with 815$.
Then we have the three teams at 30K in cap space in Vancouver, Philly, St.Louis. That 30K in space will obviously help STL repeat.
Chicago and Vegas beat out the Panthers with under 200k in cap space.
I hope you get it by now. being right at the cap is a problem for half the league....It is what happens in a cap world. - Santo_44
Yes thanks for the diagram on that, but I'm understanding of that. My point is that the leafs didn't put themselves in that situation with the intention of fighting with the middle of the pack... |

I agree, Johnsson's trade value down significantly with his raise in salary and the puny production. |

It would be one thing if the Leafs were up against the cap but had depth on defence. |

Leafs have been middle of the pack for HDSC.
Not saying it’s been good other teams have been worse and we don’t see their goaltending to be below average |

The bloom is off the rose in Long Island. Islanders are in trouble.
Lou has done nothing other than spend $ to bring in the best coach. That's a baaaad roster. - RogerRoeper

They were 6th and 7th in the league the past 2 years.
This isn’t some middle of the pack team plus there is still a little under half a season left. |
