Exactly. So, if it's working for them, it could work for us... Or not.. We could both fail? - PatC80
luckily, one of us has to get 3rd.

Being on par with a team like Florida is indicative of a problem for the leafs, not them. Last I checked Florida doesn't have 3 players over 10 mil per, are they even at the cap? |

no, the Leafs are the only ones at the cap.
even when half the League is pretty much at the cap, they are not. Its only the Leafs.
I dont make the rules, thats just how it is. |

Yep only 200K in cap space and a 10 million dollar goalie playing like a 1 million dollar goalie. |

Well they're not the only ones at the cap. But. Probably one of a few who had it tight enough that managing it on the daily was the plan. And that's without considering they have a player like Tyson Barrie with half his salary paid by another team.
Being at parity with a team like Florida probably isn't what they had in mind... |

Petry has two years on his contract.
And agree to disagree. - Santo_44
Would love to get Petry.
I think he will be too expensive and the last thing we need to do is improve the Habs too much.

Pretty wrong there man.
Check it out. Arizona and the Sabres have the exact same cap space as the Leafs.
The Bruins have a whopping 715$ more. Yes that is 715 hundred.
Dallas is a close tie with 815$.
Then we have the three teams at 30K in cap space in Vancouver, Philly, St.Louis. That 30K in space will obviously help STL repeat.
Chicago and Vegas beat out the Panthers with under 200k in cap space.
I hope you get it by now. being right at the cap is a problem for half the league....It is what happens in a cap world. |

This is the issue with the Leafs getting so much more press and so many more fans, people think they are in the worst cap situation and almost no one is against the cap.
Over half the league is right against the cap. And i've got news for you, if Bobrovskly was signed in Toronto it would universally be known as the worst NHL contract. There is no contract on the Leafs close to that one.
Why is Vancouver in "Cap Hell" never making the playoffs and Pettersen not signed? |

Arizona was losing 50 million per year cheating to be under the cap. They better have success and sell many more tickets.

that's not right.
e.g. if st. louis keeps tarasenko on ltir until the post-season, they can add $5.8M in full contracts.

Leafs drafted Matthews/Marner/Nylander 3 years in a row., If you hit on your high picks you will be against the cap.
Arizona keeps bombing on their high picks and they barely have any cap.
Leafs have 0 contracts they can't move unlike every other team against the cap. |

The bloom is off the rose in Long Island. Islanders are in trouble.
Lou has done nothing other than spend $ to bring in the best coach. That's a baaaad roster. |

if we're looking for pk help, my top top targets would be:
manson
greene for cheaper option
other cheapish options, that could help:
b.dillon
nemeth
demelo
vatanen (kinda expensive)

cool.
If Tarasenko is injured going into the playoffs they might not even have him for playoffs.
Playing what ifs is fun. |
