With the new TV deal and expansion money, the cap is going to go up, so I doubt it will ever be a bad deal, but I'd like to think the Sabres good do better for Risto. Maybe not though
- jcragcrumple

I think the price for Risto was already set and it wasn't going to be matched because it was extremely high.

He's playing well, but if they follow the 7-3-1 model, and resign Montour long term, Risto is not getting protected.

Or you let him to to arb and just take the contract he’s given ?

My guess is that Montour will get closer to $5M next year.

I decided to look into what the Stars fans have on Cap Friendly and saw this:

DAL
Ristolainen, Rasmus

BUF
Oleksiak, Jamie
Comeau, Blake
Tufte, Riley
2021 2nd round pick (DAL)

I honestly don't know how to feel about it.

gut reaction, is a hard no from me.

i think the over payment is part of it so that he feels like we got his back more than just going to arb

is oleksiak RD or LD.. if he is left no way we do it, can't have Botts picking up any of those

Im not sure the sum of the parts would do it for me. I may be wrong but we get back bottom range stuff.
Blake Comeau was sweet on NHL 14 though

wait its a hard no for me.... take away the 2nd and I dont even know if I do that deal for Girgernsons

It's become abundantly clear that Botterill is not trading Risto for a dump. It will be player for player. Real players.

Riley Tufte is the only piece of interest, but it still seems like a vast overpayment by the Sabres.

The only interest in Tufte is his size. I know nothing about him.

it doesn't make sense to move him now.

Let him keep playing as he is, and see if he can garner more interest in the offseason.

You trade him when the value you receive is greater than the value he provides. Shouldn't matter when that is.

But, that's typically a move you don't see until the offseason.

They are usually really bad on the armchair gm section, but two that I would have done yesterday were (mind you these are from fans of the other teams):

Miller for Palat
and
Vesey and a 7th for Matt Murray

I don't think anyone here would turn down either of those deals.

I know we traded a first and Guhle for Montour, but I don’t see the hype about him. He’s good but nothing special. I would much rather move him in a trade. He is superfluous and much less valuable than Risto.

Yep, about $3m over. If we could give Hutton away that would cover it. Or Sheary, Frolik or Vesey.

I think he could have more value because of Risto's struggles in the past playing for bad coaches on worse teams. I also think Montour will be looking for $5-6m.
I don't think he's much less valuable, but Risto is the only real physical guy we have that has some skill.
I would trade Montour before Risto.

I agree, however I think Botts likes Mountour made it his point to get Montour.
Id be interested to see the people on the inside if they know "his guys" who he is probably really out looking for.
Like GMTM clearly 100% we knew Robyn was his guy and the goalie #1 on his list

No consistency in the lineup in a 7 man rotation. And he’s the one bouncing from left to right and switching partners, multiple times through a game.

Run 6 d, put him on a consistent pair and then let’s see what we have in him...
