The PHWA released it's midseason award winners and the usuals are up for most of the awards. I just wondered if people felt the same as I do about a couple. First is this one:
Comeback Player of the Year Award - to the player who returned to a previous high level of performance that was interrupted by subpar play, long-term injury or major illness.
1. William Nylander, Toronto Maple Leafs
This is just a joke to me. Now they're going to reward players for holding out for months and then having a bad season because they didn't go to training camp and didn't play with the team for months because they wanted more money? GTFO with this crap. There's guys that actually fought through injuries or bad play and didn't choose to abandon their team to benefit themselves.
Secondly, is the Hart:
Hart Trophy - to the player adjudged to be most valuable to his team.
1. Connor McDavid, Edmonton Oilers
2. Nathan MacKinnon, Colorado Avalanche
3. David Pastrnak, Boston Bruins
McDavid sure, Edmonton would be a lottery team without him.
MacKinnon, again I'm fine with this choice. Leading the team with 72 points with the next highest scorer being a rookie dman with 37 points and the next highest forward with 34.
Pastrnak is my issue with this one. Without Pasta the Bruins are still likely in 1st or 2nd in the division and likely win a couple playoff rounds. He's just one piece on a great team.
I think there many other players that are more valuable to their teams. Just look at Jack for one. What would this team look like without him? He is way more valuable to Buffalo than Pasta is to the Bruins without question.
Honorable mention for bad picks is nominating Berube and Armstrong for coach and GM of the year. Your team just won the Cup. It's not like turned a bad team into a contender (Benning, Chayka) or lost all your best players and are still a playoff contender (Torts).

If the Sabres somehow make the playoffs Eichel should win the Hart
He won't but he should be top 3
If the Sabres finish 9th and he has around 108 points he should be a finalist

I agree is it MVP to their team or MVP on a team whos in the playoffs?
IMO If Pasta missed 3 months they still are a playoff team
Mack yes they fall but not too bad
Connor yes they become very bad
Jack.... does this team win more than a few games without him for an extended period of time? |

Michael Russo in his latest podcast, among others, says Erik Haula is in big time trouble with the Carolina Hurricanes right now. Healthy scratch, some say he had a “clash in personalities” with head coach Rod Brind’Amour. We’ll see where this goes. #LetsGoCanes - Stripes77

Not saying it would happen, but just thinking that with Quenneville in Florida and him liking Joker, would there be any interest in looking for a trade with them?
I was thinking something like Joker and Mitts for Trocheck and a prospect like Tippet.
I like Joker and am not proposing that they shop him. Just bringing up the idea based on Q being his coach when he played his best hockey in Chicago and our need for a 2C.
Also, I know that the money doesn't work, but that's something they could work out with a cap dump or money retained. |

Only because it takes two to tango, and if you're trying to do the foxtrot while the other is doing a shuffle it can get really weird. |

Plus the all star break is good time to decompress. It was a frenetic 9 months to get the Frolik trade done |
