2014 NHL DRAFT

2:35 Tampa - Dominik Masin
7:181 Buffalo - Victor Olofsson

- TheSabresTaco

Yup, we can do this all day long right!
I’ve said this before and I will day it again. There are about 6-10 sure fire NHL studs in the draft every DECADE. The rest are a gamble.

I dont know how I would feel. He does look pretty incredible but how many years is he away a couple?
- hubie

6k probably gets to the NHL before Askarov
But that’s fine

Nothing wrong with having multiple talented young goalies

And eventually, having them in a time share keeps the price down on both

I love how people here bring up a 2nd line centers name and immediately met with. He sucks or something like that

When our center depth looks like:

Johansson
Lazar
Larsson
Erod - lazar goes 2C sometimes

We should be open to taking anyone and everyone.

Literally 95% of the players named are than the current centers we have

you can't say he wouldn't come here

they didn't try to get him, even though they should have

you can say , you think he wouldn't come here, but you can't say there was no chance he would come here

unless you served his agent a beer and heard this

- homiedclown

Well obviously it opinion based
But the points i made certainly back him not coming here

And if we didn’t try (do u know that for a fact?),
maybe it was bc it was widely known that Phil wanted to go play for Tocchet in ARZ

1 out of 8 goalies taken in the first round pan out, see earlier post

I feel Sabres fans would love Holloway. Canadian kid who went the college route at Wisconsin. Has the feel of a guy who is guaranteed to be a middle 6 NHLer

This curve looks reasonable in graph form, but it really predicts that goalies will fall off a cliff from age 35 on:
Change from 35 to 36 years old: -.005
Change from 36 to 37 years old: -.006
Change from 37 to 38 years old: -.007
Change from 38 to 39 years old: -.008
Change from 39 to 40 years old: -.009

Sure seems to me like Hutton has already fallen off the cliff, if not hit the bottom

He doesn’t have the potential upside that a guy like Gunler or Mysak might have in the 10-15 range but definitely looks like a guy who can be a solid role player at the very least.

Only thing that worries me about Zary is that he is an older player in this years class and the foot speed is average. However his playmaking ability is top notch and he is known to hold his own defensively. Wouldn’t mind him in the Blue and Gold either if we can’t get one of the Big 8.

One thing ive come to notice is when people gush over skating ability they tend to hit more often then the flashy stat guy. in my amateur opinion

for example
A little wonky in his stride, but has some power to his base, good balance and moves smoothly up ice.

scares me a bit

other
Will gain the leg strength that is missing.

Fair, but outside the top10 is generally risky,
regardless of position

Askarov & Knight have been the highest rated goalie prospects to come out in quite a while

I liked Knight better personally

That said...
if we go with a forward, I’m totally cool with that too
Hopefully a goal scoring winger

We could use another sniper type to go with our pass first guys (Cozens & Mitts)

Saying he was an option doesn’t have anything to back it up

Again,
it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that he was going to ARZ

At 34 years old,
I don’t think anything a coach says has a guy who’s been stopping pucks his whole life suddenly suck

The guy is declining
It’s pretty obvious

he was not declining at the start of the season

I think it's an injury/conditioning problem
