I don't necessarily agree... The goal should be making the playoffs this season.. It's been a very up and down year with injuries, firings, players struggling.. I think the playoffs would be win for this season..
Plus, once you're in, anything can happen. - PatC80
I can see how it will be spun this way, but I wouldn't say that makes it so. If it's the same result as the last 3 years its not progress, and the media will remind us of as much all summer.
And yes, once you're in any given Sunday. But I'd like to know the last cup winner that did as much with as many pucks in their own net. I feel confident saying as much, no one wins playoff games 7-5, 6-5, etc., and walks away with a cup. Ever. |

A team that is currently out of a playoff spot should contemplate trading an expiring asset at the deadline.
Wow, what a radical thought.
I cannot believe someone would be criticized for suggesting it. On the other hand this is HB.
Unless we see a dramatic turn around on this team, they definitely should consider moving Barrie. Believing this team is a serious contender is pretty (frank)ing stupid... again, barring a huge turnaround in discipline, toughness, maturity and effort.
I have no idea what the trading Matthews question was about (stupid bird), but I will say this... Once he is in year 4 of this deal, unless you KNOW you are going to re-sign him, then you definitely take a hard look at trading him. Once he hits year 5, he has a NMC and anyone who just blindly believe he won't leave in free agency didn't pay enough attention to Tavares. - Aetherial

if he keeps up the way he plays and produces, his fantastic cap hit of 700K will make him pretty valuable at the TDL, all teams against the cap will be able to afford him - Symba007
wont they need him for the pLaYoFfs? |

yeah let’s just make the playoffs 🤦♂️
where have i seen this before 🤦♂️
they have a great trade asset in greedy willi 👍
he’s hot right now, getting pointz so some sucker may trade significant assets for his offense👍🏿
at the end of the day, he is what we’ve come to realize he is; a soft as slime, selfish little pencil necked floater, perimeter player who disappears when games really matter🤦♂️
trade him for a grown man who hits the weight pile, sticks up for his teammates, shows up every day and competes👍
preferably a dman 👍🏿 |

Well the Kings also seemed to try to basically make him terminate his own contract. They're a surprisingly scummy organization what with the Stoll cocaine, Richards contract and all that jazz. |

As senstroll stated...since Keefe took over the D has improved a bunch. Goaltending has been we below average.
They need their top 2 D back. Any team would struggle with their top defenders out. - Santo_44
Agreed, but poor defense has been a hallmark of this team since the Pat Burns and Pat Quinn years

As bad as this season has been, we are not that far off.. The team needs to commit to defense.. If they can figure that out, we'll be a lot better..
They are capable of it. The Isles game and the Flames game are good, recent examples. |

Considering how this season has gone, I think making the playoffs will be a success - PatC80
Meh.
If they go deep, yes. Another 1st round exit.
No.
Many teams go through injuries. Not an excuse.
Although the leafs have had quite a bit, but thats what their "amazing" forward depth is for. |

Only trade players if you are improving this team now. the standings are very close, the Leafs have had some obstacles to overcome (Babs, injuries, a stretch of bad goalies)
not every season is a masterpiece from start to Finnish, but (frank) me if I am going to root for the team to sell off players because Matthews might Leave in 5 (frank)ing years. - senstroll
Uh? I wasn't linking those ideas at all. I was addressing two separate aspects of a keep/trade Barrie debate. It was drunk Seagull that brought up Matthews.

IMO, it's a clean slate with Keefe, so I don't think a 1st rd exit is a failure.
I think they are capable of being so much better.. We'll see, I guess.. At least 33 more games to figure this out. |

Oh, be careful. It's an obviously silly idea and everyone will laugh at you in bunches. The guy with the personality disorder said so. - joel878
Fortunately, not everyone is laughing.
I guess the playoffs are a crapshoot, but it is optimistic to even believe they make the playoffs and seems dumb at this point to think anything significant happens when they are there.
