would be funny the Habs finish ahead of the leafs….unless it's 9th and 10th
- Symba007

Meh, the Habs are due for another 8 game losing streak.

A team that is currently out of a playoff spot should contemplate trading an expiring asset at the deadline.

Wow, what a radical thought.

I cannot believe someone would be criticized for suggesting it. On the other hand this is HB.

Unless we see a dramatic turn around on this team, they definitely should consider moving Barrie. Believing this team is a serious contender is pretty (frank)ing stupid... again, barring a huge turnaround in discipline, toughness, maturity and effort.

I have no idea what the trading Matthews question was about (stupid bird), but I will say this... Once he is in year 4 of this deal, unless you KNOW you are going to re-sign him, then you definitely take a hard look at trading him. Once he hits year 5, he has a NMC and anyone who just blindly believe he won't leave in free agency didn't pay enough attention to Tavares.

Oh, be careful. It's an obviously silly idea and everyone will laugh at you in bunches. The guy with the personality disorder said so.

I love that the Flyers would be tied for 1st in the pacific and aren't even in a playoff spot in the East.

If the Leafs are out of a playoff spot by the time the trade deadline comes along, then yes, Dubas should look at trading some of their expiring contracts

That would be a failed season and not reflect well on him.
Not sure he does that.
I think the leafs will be either a couple of pts in or out of playoff spot, and dubie doesnt do anything drastic. Minor depth moves.
Unless he can unload some cap or beauty trade lands on his lap.

It's just my opinion but I don't think a playoff spot should be the bar, if they are to be taken seriously all these years they've said building a contender properly is the goal.

If they come out and all of a sudden the problem areas are rectified and they are looking like a force, go for it. But if the team marches towards the deadline in the same boat unable to play team defense and giving up 4+ goals a game, they clearly aren't going anywhere.

Limping in as a wild card to get smoked in the first round does nothing for the progression of the team and this '5 year window' if they're going to let premium assets walk for free to accomplish as much.

I don't necessarily agree... The goal should be making the playoffs this season.. It's been a very up and down year with injuries, firings, players struggling.. I think the playoffs would be win for this season..

Plus, once you're in, anything can happen.

Well some of the injured guys are coming back. That might help completely destroy our chances at a top 5 pick.

Maybe, but the signing of Kovalchuk definitely seems like you're going with a younger roster now.

I expected absolutely nothing out of Kovalchuk.

He's looking pretty good.... might be able to flip him for an asset at the trade deadline.

if he keeps up the way he plays and produces, his fantastic cap hit of 700K will make him pretty valuable at the TDL, all teams against the cap will be able to afford him

I think the lack of interest really hurt his pride. Dude has a chip on his shoulder now.
