Yeah I guess the idea is to keep giving up at the deadline and collecting picks until you have a season like Tampa did last year, because then for sure you're gonna win.

They might have talent for a playoff run in 2027.

It’s the Leafs, so they did it wrong. Should’ve drafted Hanifin, and McAvoy instead of Marner and Matthews...
- Steven_Seagull

Or Strome and Nick Ritchie.

Since Keefe took over he’s been pretty good.

Easily a top 4 d he just doesn’t help the Leafs weakness but he 100% contributes to wins. He’s been way better than Rielly on that 1PP.

At the end of the day you don’t make your team worse when every year is so important. The Leafs won’t be this talented forever.

We’ll be just like the Habs/Sabres/Canucks one day.

Easier to love hard working teams than talented teams. Effort in the losses to the Flyers, Panthers and Blackhawks was non-existent. Freddie has been lousy for some time. There's enough space to float a beachball through his five hole.

What do you mean?

No Barrie means we are

Worse trying to get into the playoffs
Worse in a potential round 1 matchup
Worse in a potential round 2 matchup
Worse in a potential round 3 matchup
Worse in a potential cup final

Your mindset on how players contribute to success is all wrong.

- Santo_44

No, my mindset is that unless we have a legitimate chance of winning the cup it's absurd to allow a premium asset to walk away for nothing.

We've done the first round thing, I could care less to watch one round again... Don't care how much worse the team is without him.

Strome went before Marner. Nothing the Leafs could’ve done. Cherry would’ve loved Ritchie. God rest his angry, senile soul.

Yeah he loved him. But then Ritchie didn't buy a poppy and the rest is history.

They could have traded Marner and a first for Strome.

They're not gonna trade UFAs at the deadline when they're in the hunt.
- Zezel

In the hunt for what? LOL. This team is zero threat to see round 2.

Allowing an asset like Tyson Barrie to walk into the open market because it gives us a moderately better chance of barely making the playoffs is absurd.

He’s great no doubt ... I’m still with Ovi though...

Kane can drag a team Ovi cannot.
Talking goals sure but he doesn’t solo.

Maybe one day the Leafs will be as good as TB last year.

Guaranteed cup if they are the best team in the regular season.

The Leafs will never be good enough in your head to win a cup.

Thankfully they have actual hockey people running the show.

While I agree he's been mostly sh!t, there is no incentive to trade him. First, he's worth very little on the trade market, doubt you could get more than a 2nd rounder and second - Leafs have no first rounder this year so there's serious organizational motivation to make the playoffs. I see the Leafs adding and soon. Hopefully a player that is willing to work hard and not make a back pass when he's behind his own net.

Well, they're not going to be sellers at the deadline so it's a moot point. You should probably stop watching until next season.

Do you ever wonder why everyone struggles to have a rational conversation with you?

I'm not saying that, but if you think this team can be poop all regular season with a goalie who can't stop the puck and defense who can't even begin to limit scoring chances... And they're just gonna hop into the playoffs and go all the way?

If you can't see the writing on the wall, well.. It's called blind optimism.

Yep that team barely had a shot at a cup.

Should of sold low when they had the chance.

The crazy thing is this year, no one has a shot at the Cup. So all the teams should be selling at the deadline. It's going to be very confusing.

That's not accurate, it's just more evidence of you cramming these all or nothing ridiculous one liners into people's mouths.

I believe with proper asset management they will be good enough one day.

Spending the majority of a decade trying to find another top pairing defenseman, and then allowing him to walk away for nothing after one season... All for the sake of moderately improving a team which has way to many glaring and obvious issues to hoist a cup this season is completely asinine.

Every team should sell at the TDL except for Boston and Washington.

Give up while you have the chance. Burn a year off Matthews, Nylander, Marner, Rielly, Andersen deals.

It’s not like they are important anyways. Dime a dozen players.

Very much disagree. Top 4 defenseman are always at a premium come deadline day. Always. Especially ones which have half of their salary paid and are easy to fit under the cap.

I won't even go there, but just take a second and look up the list of garbage defenseman that have been worth 2nd rounders on deadline day that barely crack rosters the next season.

Brendan smith fetched a 1st plus I think.
