Angeli Esposito, maybe? At least Tangradi played some real time in the NHL... |

Again, but to be fair its all a crapshoot.
Even basing stuff on analytics there was a point in time RW had a blog about trading Dumoulin for Ty Rattie who was lighting up the AHL. And then there are guys like Anthony Duclair who come out of semi-nowhere. Then there are guys like Yakupov who never figure it out.
But to your point, by the time most players are 24-25 we know what they are. - YouMeAndDupuis9
These are all apples and oranges. Rattie and Dumo were both second round picks and Duclair was a third rounder. A 23 year old 6th round pick who has not set foot on NHL ice is not a prospect. There’s a difference between a good prospect busting like Rattie and a guy not being a legitimate prospect for the NHL. |

Interesting minor league deal with Stars...get another younger D for an older Center. - iworkatinitech
It's probably just WBS has too many centers and not enough defensemen. Palve has been getting healthy scratches. |

Here's my theory on the much debated 3/58 pairing... in a system such as Sully's that the Pens have obviously bought into as a team THIS SEASON, it has good and bad to it. The 'bad' is that it probably restricts guys like Sid, Geno and Tanger, as it takes away some of their free-wheeling and creativity. The 'good' as I see it is it helps prop up the JJs and Rhuws so the TEAM works better together as a unit. So when you had the 81s, 71s and 58s doing their own thing, like they did last season, it really left the 2s and 3s not knowing what to expect or do, because they're not seeing what they should be seeing on the ice in the system. This season, with everyone buying in, everyone else knows where to expect their teammates to be, and they're ALL playing better. Individually, it sounds like a bad thing to sacrifice some of what 58 can do to help 3, but as a team, the system works better for everyone. And thus, maybe why Sully is pairing Dmen like he is.
The Isles (and Pens) both demonstrated this theory in plain, painful sight during last year's playoffs. - Cousinskrid
Jesse Marshall did a good article with video last week showing how differently Dumoulin and JJ position themselves. For inatance on the breakout Dumoulin will swing behind the net for a safe outlet while JJ will stay in front of the net in case something goes wrong and leaves Letang to break out himself.
It isn't even something I'll kill JJ for, it's just so different from what he's used to with Dumoulin that it's making Letang uncomfortable. That and he's playing too much and there's plenty of evidence when he plays say past 24-25 minutes he gets tired and makes more mental mistakes. |

Yeah but you mentioned Biggs who was a first round pick.. so just saying either way... First round or 6th round we really have no clue. |

Regarding the article, the regression I most fear is Jarry. Many of us thought McCann was a breakout candidate, so what he is doing isn't shocking. Rust, I've given up trying to figure out and just enjoying it. |

Morozov was actually an alright player, he was way better than Tangradi who was awful. Fliewich was garbage though lol. |

Jarry IS starting to regress. My hope is that it's not drastic. |

I disagree. His defense is substantially worse with the loss of Dumo and Schultz. The fact is he has played extremely well against quality teams but his save average has dipped. Jarry gets Boston and Murray gets Detroit to help his confidence... Seems legit. |

Lose your #2 and #3 Dman and expecting the same results is ludicrous. On another note, Dougie Hamilton is done for the season and Carolina is fixing to fade in the Metro. |
