Marc Staal was scratched recently because he's been dealing with an injury

as annoying as Skjei is, he played 25 minutes last night, he played 27 minutes in the win over Colorado, 26 vs the Devils

- jimbro83

Yeah, he has the dirty ankle that gets infected

I'm with you man. If we trade Skjei now I think it's an admission we are punting the season. As people don't want to admit, once Staal is gone it's possible we need Skjei. We don't know how fast Miller is going to develop, and if you aren't a Hajek fan, that's another spot you might have to think about filling.

I know everyone wants to get rid of Skjei, but what do they do, call up Rykov for the left side the rest of the season and deal with his growing pains?

you know they'd want a veteran presence to settle things down, you are just asking for more Marc Staal here

- jimbro83

Hey what's up guys, haven't been on here in a long time. Couldn't they called up joey keane who made the AHL all star team this year. I'm not saying to trade Skjei, just giving an option maybe

At this point, maybe its just me, but I actually feel more comfortable with Staal out there. I don't know if its because Skjei has been so bad, but Staal isn't, or at least doesn't seem so bad this year.

I think Barzal might have gone to underrated to overrated, he hasn't impressed me much lately
- jimbro83

No doubt!
He was the 3rd most talented star on that ice.
I’d take Zbad over him in a heartbeat
The other is obviously Panarin

it depends, that means they'd move him to left side or move one of Trouba, Tony D or Fox to the left side

Skjei looks bad a lot because he's out there a lot against other team's top players

Jim's whole point was not to have another rookie on the left side. If Hajek/Lindgren improve and show they are capable for big minutes, then fine start the process next year. If you trade Skjei you have 2 options and neither one of them are very good.

1) You are playing a rookie or Staal on the top unit. I don't Lindgren or Hajek have really shown they can handle that

2) You are scratching a young guy every night or going with an all rookie left side. That spells disaster.

I am talking about people who want to trade Skjei now

what's the plan, people really think with the team rolling with their best play since Quinn got here, now is the time to break in yet another rookie?

- jimbro83

We’d roll Lindgren Hajek Staal. Could see what we have in Rykov as well.

I understand that, not saying to do it. At some point though, you have to make room for all these young guys or trade them. Joey keane really never gets mentioned with Nils or Miller

right, but, then you are asking them to lesson his minutes significantly, and there's nothing by looking at his minutes played lately that indicates they are willing to do that

I really haven't been impressed with Hajek at all this season, even before the injury. Jury is still out on him

I am all down keeping Skjei for the rest of the year. But unload him this summer so we keep Kreider, ADA and Strome

End of the day if you want to keep Kreider and ADA we need to shed money. IMO the place it makes sense is a place we could get by for another year, the left side of the defense. We have Miller and Rykov (lefty but plays the right side, could he switch?). Skjei would give us some cap relief. I get he doesn’t need to be traded now, but I think he could be.

I'm calling it now.

Hank will agree to be traded to Colorado

Skjei is traded for forward prospect and 4th

Smith is traded for 4th rounder

Buch is traded for 2nd rounder

Kreider re-signs

Strome resigns

ADA get 6 year deal at 5.5

Also I was thinking. If the Rangers did move Skjei in the summer....which d man would be exposed then to Seattle?
