I think if we got him, then it would probably mean the end of Kreider. Our dead money only goes up by a total of 2 million (Shatty goes up but Girardi's goes down) plus we gain about a million and a half from not having to bury Belesky and Stinky's retained salary coming off. If you believed in Kapanen, exchanging his cap hit with CKs probably helps us resign our RFAs, though we still might have to do a couple moves to fit all of them. - 2sticks1puck
I believe that Kapenen is inferior to Kreider in every way (sit down, TPC) other than age. So to me, if it's between signing Kreider or gaining Kapanen, I'll pay the extra, so long as it fits the overall plan. |

he's the positive about Kapanen
3.2 million hit for two more years (then he's a RFA)
Finnish player to help with Kakko |

Kapanen only plays right though right? At that point we are probably moving Buch to left if he's still here, or maybe even Kravs if he figures stuff out. Though having another Finn on a team in general I could see helping. |

Espo's legacy gets tainted by his awful GM-ness, he really was a great hockey player - jimbro83
Understating it, IMO.
A great player, leader and man.
If you guys haven't seen the '72 Summit Series, I urge you to find it somehow. OMG, a different game in those days and some of the greatest competition you will ever see in ANY sport.

yeah more like a mentor, 5 years older, it can't be easy for an 18 year old kid from Finland to make the transition to NYC
playing together isn't necessarily my only thought, but powerplay time together for sure |

This is what's being floated on the Leafs board:
Johnsson and Bracco for Georgiev and Andersson.
And they are all for it. Too bad fan bases can't ratify trades!!! - Tonybere
If targeting one, it's Kapanen by a large margin. I know Bracco is a local kid, but his size owrries me, solely because I don't think he is top-six material and unsure he best fits on the bottom-six of a good team. |

Yes, but they gave up Ratelle to get him and then Espo pushed for Cashman costing NY, Middleton.
If want to see amazing hockey, also watch Game 3 of US-Canada in the 1996 World Cup. |

the Leafs should trade Kapanen to the Rangers so they could finally promote Bracco |

I think Kapanen and Bracco for Georgy and Buchnevich is a good fair deal for both teams, maybe a pick going back to one of the teams. I’d much rather have Kapanen in the top 9 over Buch. Bracco is a wild card obviously, but he is from Long Island so maybe he’s like Fox and wanting to play here |

Has there ever been a very good player in the NHL with a very Italian sounding last name? - mdw7413
Tell me you're kidding. There's about a hundred of them including a bunch of rangers
Amonte
Zucc
Ferraro
Granato
Esposito's
Modano
Iafrate
Palmieri
Ciccarelli
Rechi
Ricci
Cam'dog
Giordano
Patches
Nanne's
Beezer was italian on mom's side but obviously not an Italian sounding name

There's a whole documentary on the stadium series that's really good. It's usually on NHL network from time to time.
The one they did on the 1996 World Cup a few years ago was great too. Tkatchuk talking about watching it with his kids and them asking him, "Were there any rules" was priceless. |

If they kept him I don't believe they could, have to expose 1 goalie. |

I was AT the ‘96 World Cup!
Drove to Ottawa with a few buddies to see Canada vs. Slovakia. Great game, 3-2 Canada.
Messier was a force of nature.
People cheering “Mooooose” when he made a play. And this guy beside me starts screaming, “STOP BOOING HIM!!!” Such a Sam moment!
I will never forget that. |
