It was - he ran the draft that year too. Check that one out
He's also responsible for signing Zdeno Chara and Marc Savard.
He is basically the one that orchestrated the team Chiarelli takes credit for. - RickJames77
That's right. I knew that. I always give Chiarelli credit for Chara because he came from Ottawa as the AGM, but I seem to forget that constantly.
Kessel, Lucic and Marchand in one draft? With only 5 picks? What an ass. That's just showing off.
Man, how good would you guys have been if you'd just stuck with Gorton.

Gorton would have gotten more for Kessel? |

We did.. Rask wasn't gonna sign here just to play in the AHL. If I recall, he wanted to be in the NHL right away. Everyone felt Pogge was going to be the better of the two. It just didn't work out that way. - PatC80
But he played in the AHL for Boston. |

Wtf. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Where are you getting this from?
I've seen no credible reports that it was an act of terrorism.

You may recall more specifics of the time, but I had watched the world juniors avidly (like most of us with no NHL in 2004-05) and was so high on Rask. When the draft came and we were pick 21, I had hoped that Kopitar would fall, but when he went my next hope was Rask. I liked Rask more than Price (I'm not a scout; sue me. I just did). I was over the moon when we got him.
I don't see why the Leafs couldn't have signed Rask to an ELC. - Monkeypunk
I was totally head-over-heels in love with Pogge, due to this article:

IIRC, it wasn't about playing in the AHL.
It was about being being behind Pogge on the depth chart. |

Maybe that was it.. I remember stories of him not being happy with the decisions being made here. |

So we are essentially giving up Johnsson to "upgrade" Ceci to Hainsey?
And I doubt Ottawa would include a 2nd. |

optically - that is what it appears as.... HOWEVER... the real win is in acquiring Jaros, who would be about what Ceci is at a much lower cost going forward, and who has some upside.
Hainsey is a stop gap - and was/is included to balance CAP hits.
and you have to know that Melnyk would drool over not having to pay for Gaborik - hence the 2nd - of which Ottawa has 3.
so... get rid of Ceci's contract (win), replace Ceci's current role with Hainsey/Jaros for the remainder of this year and get a potentially cheaper 3rd pair RHD for next couple of years.
I like Johnsson - but someone has to go out.. and eventually Mikheyev, the Giraffe and Korshkov will push him out.
Petan is a throw away - again because of those three guys - and then Robertson eventually. |

I had forgotten about Ottawa having 3 2nd rounders - good thinking.
But I'm still going to have to say "No, Dawg" - I just think Johnsson has way more value than that. I just don't think your deal has any upside past this year - we can get more for Johnsson. |

Same Lucas.
8-1 Jets.
Dubas is an idiot.
Even our guys with size play like lightweights.
Really embarrassing.
I love the Leafs but I hope they get humiliated to the point where Shanahan is forced to fire Wonder Boy and build a Team which can win 4 rounds.
This Team definitely cannot. |

I'm not crying.
Shut up, you are the one who is crying.
And the funny thing about this is that the story was written before Canada won gold.
And then he won the WHL league MVP award, CHL Goaltender of the Year award, and of course top WHL goaltender award.
Hindsight is 20/20, but don't tell me the Leafs were stupid for thinking this kid was going to be a great goalie.
He was the best goaltending prospect the Maple Leafs have ever had.

Well too bad he had no power to decide anything. No need to rush a move. Think Dubas would rush something like that? Dubas can't get enough of elite talent. He keeps it like it's gold. |

You know we beat the Jets 6-3 in Winnipeg less than a week ago, right? |
