That first line seems like you're doing what you asked him not to do, in addition to bringing politics into the the hockey board (for the 435rd time).
- mohel

OK, Mo - that first line may have brought a little sarcastic politics into it - but the line is factual - I didn't say what was attributed to me.

But - I'll take your criticism to heart.

Capfriendly has historical GM trades. Go to Tools then General Managers, then click on the GM name.

Perhaps I misread the line - I read it as a shot at his view of the facts. Just thought it was a personal shot, which you asked him not to do. My apologies if I misread it.

And politics is like anthrax - just a few spores can develop into a big problem. As we've seen before.

To confirm.....you are appropriately nicknamed, Sage, and are one of my favorite posters.

Re: Ebony Raptor and how you add a 4th right handed defender...

I recall you mentioned with Murphy, Seabrook and promoted Adam Boqvist how can they add another RD....

Well, Boqvist has been asked to play both sides at various lower levels, and even though I think you want to make things as simply aMitchell's baptism, so he probably start as a RD but can play both sides well...

- wiz1901

Hey Wiz, Have you seen Mitchell play much lately? I haven't seen him play any games this season and not much the last couple season either. What are you impressions and expectations of his short term and long term prospects? Does he have legit top-4 potential?

I agree with what you're saying 100%. You don't need a bunch big goons. Having guys who play bigger than they are is BIG key in today's skill game.

I bolded the last part because that's the key. We have to wait and see if he can become that. Though it seems like most people have pinned him down already have what maybe 30 games in the NHL? 30 games, might I add in which he was called up for depth with injuries and has stuck since which says a lot about how he's grown since being called up.

That's why I am in favor of playing some of these kids who are on the cusp of being NHL ready.....

To an earlier post......they, Hawks, just need to pick a damn lane. Develop the kids and play them along veterans but playing a veteran just to do so....unless you are AUDITIONING him to be moved...makes no sense. Case in point...Sikura. Play the kid every night so he figure out consistency. Zach Smith has no place on this team IMO as is....if they are a playoff team, different story, but as is.....they are wasting minutes on a known guy while those could be going to help the FO make a decision on if some of these kids are pieces they can count on as they revamp for another cup run.

Same with Gilbert.....They need to deal KK and Gus, and Smith....where is Billy Beane when we need him......

I love Stan's signing of Carpenter, and locked up for 2 more years at $1mil. Because of what he brings, and his cap hit, he might fetch a higher draft choice (a #3) than the other favorites to trade. If we can take back an expiring contract, maybe bump it up to a #2 as a sweetner?

Yes - but unfortunately, the Olympic hockey tournament (unlike basketball) is "in-season" - I understand the league's difficulty with interrupting the regular season for up to three weeks to take part (tho I wish they could figure out a way to do it).

More to it than that, as usual its related to money.

IIHF and IOC refuse to pay a dime to the NHL to offset expenses which are substantial. Let's start with the cost of player insurance which is thru the roof cost wise. Add travel costs on to that.

Plus there is no way for the NHL to advertise their logo, team crests, show game highlights/star players etc. etc. Strictly forbidden by Olympic rules.

And last but not least, NHL Head Office and the owners like and want to be schmoozed since they would be providing the high end talent for the highlight sport of Winter Olympics. That doesn't happen either.

The IOC pretends to be a not for profit organization made up of volunteers. I totally believe none of these 'volunteers' got even a nickel in their own pockets thru Putin's boys when they awarded the games to Socchi Russia last time. They played totally by their strict rules with Vladdy as they always do.

If still with the team in 2 summers he'll be exposed to the expansion draft. Meets all the criteria... signed for 21-22, and will probably fulfill the need as one of the two forwards who need to be exposed who plays in 70 games this season and next or 40 games next year.

Look for a lot of moves by GMs the next year to get their ducks in a row leading to the Seattle draft.

You're welcome. Also for everyone else's edification that Capfriendly GM tab also lists the GMs free agent signings.

I'm with you. Picking a lane would be nice. Problem is they kinda already have. They're gonna be in the middle and hope and pray pieces fall in place for them as long as Kane is around that's gonna be the plan.

I'm with you though. Trade Gus, KK, Cags, hell maybe even Maatta, and then just let the kids play and grow together and build chemistry and you might grow something with Kane, Toews, and Keith still around.

People, don't worry about Smith. Even if he doesn't get traded at the deadline he can be bought out at the end of the year and only cost the team 1M for the next two years while adding an additional 2M to the cap (this was part of why they traded AA for him for those who "still don't understand that trade")

Especially since the next games are in Beijing - a fairly large market that the league should certainly want to exploit (and has said many times that they do).

I remember 1980 and the impact that the "Miracle on Ice" and the gold medal had on hockey in the States - even tho the game against the Soviet Union wasn't on live TV (same with the Magic - Bird finals game and the Loyola NCAA championship game - but I digress).

- StLBravesFan

From a marketing standpoint, the NBA just pissed off China, I believe games have been removed from TV. And the NBA makes much money selling uniforms, shoes and TV in China. How’s the time for the NHL to capitalize and drive up revenue.

I'm sure they've picked a lane. They've got different segments of their customers that need to hear different things.

The biggest issue is the players with contracts getting paid by the owners even if they get injured. And I can't blame the owners for wanting someone to pay for insurance. The players ought to kick in a bit for insurance if they want to go that bad. I personally don't like the idea of a compacted season as a result of the Olympics. If they do get it together and go to the tourney I'd like to see a 70 game schedule for that season.

Short side again on Crawford.

Two early goals again.

Even the first goal - trying to get over on his knees.

Bad defense, TOs - but still....

Let’s see if he can shut them out the rest of the way.
