Pete, I'm not counting top 10 picks, because even you me and my mom could draft top 10 relatively well. but outside of top 10, we have to go back to Patch and McDonut, in 2007. that's 13 years ago!! all the others since then have been bust. not only they are not playing on the Habs, they are not playing in the league!

oh, and Beaulieu in WPG, on the 3rd pair, his 3rd team.

A top 10 pick is no garantee. You should do better there, but there is no such thing as a safe pick. Hell, we have seen first overall picks being some busts.

But should the Habs have done better at the draft? Yes.

They are getting more picks and prospects recently and they have been drafting higher. We should see a change at some point.

scouting has been extremly bad,
which doesn't mean that management doesn't suck either.
imo that's the main reason why they will miss the playoffs for the 4th time in 5 years

it's a boys club Pete. the same guys were in EDM for years even though they sucked for a decade.

let's take the reverse approach,
if Timmins is so good, how come we have to go back to 2007 for him draft a good prospect outside of the top 10? how come they have to go out and sign 4th liners like Thomson and Weal and Cousins because noone in Laval can step up? how come they will miss the playoffs again?
