If Nashville became a seller, I wouldn't look at Hamhuis who is 3rd pair at best now. He's 37, he's not a top pair answer. Now at wing, Granlund and Smith would both be interesting possibilities.

This ia why it might be good to wait as more teams drop out and more options might become available from teams we weren't expecting. I'd pull the trigger on Toffoli or Krieder who are likely available now, but otherwise there's value in waiting.

I was just about to post "Does anyone think the Preds might be a seller now or soon? If so are we interested in anyone realistically?" but decided to see if anyone posted anything similar first haha.

Obviously they have studs every team wants but realistically they're not going anywhere ie Josi. I do like your suggestions of Granlund and Smith though.

I read an article earlier stating that Krieder wouldn't accept a trade to any canadien teams. I guess that narrows it down to roughly 5 or 6 that could pursue him.

I'm aware he's a 3rd pairing dman at this point, but he's still a better temporary stop-gap next to Letang than JJ until Dumo returns and is a pending UFA on a cheap contract.

Would I prefer a legit 2nd pairing LD? Sure, but it just doesn’t seem realistic at this point. My guess now is most resources will go towards replacing Jake’s spot.

Granlund is interesting. He's had a rough go this year, but has a pretty consistent history. I'm just weary of his fit with all the RWs. Toffoli and Saad can at least play both sides. Smith plays both sides, not sure how effectively, but I'd probably be more apt to look him than Granlund for that reason.

Now, the Pens don't necessarily need a LW, but it would be more suitable.

Dan Hamhuis wanted to play in British Columbia, the place he was born.

I guess that puts the old reason to bed then.

That's our guy we gotta get him, he'd be a great grab. Toffoli as well.

Their GM came out and said they might be sellers if they don't turn things around. Both of those forwards would fit the Pens style. Granlund is a guy I have had in mind as an off-season buy low target. Good 2 way player who got a lot of ES points in Minnesota.

Kreider is my #1 choice, but I think it's super unlikely. I'm sure the Rangers are willing to deal within the division, but they will make any Metro team overpay. I also read somewhere, I don't remember where, that it's believed people in the Pens' org aren't that high on him.

I think Toffoli and/or Saad are at least the most logical choices of players named in the media. However, we often see moves happen that we didn't see coming, so there could be other names the Pens are looking into that aren't even on our radar, i.e. past moves like Gudbranson, Hagelin, Pearson, Bjugstad, McCann, etc...

Price for Toffoli is rumored to be a 2nd now. That's not surprising as he's on pace for 20 goals and 45 points. That's a problem for the Pens though because they don't have a 2nd.

Rick Carpiniello, who I'm not familiar with but writes for the Athletic, said the Pens are definitely interested in Kreider but probably don't have the assets. I think I've read both before so who knows. If it's just a question of assets, GMJR tends to find a way. Boston and Avs also in the mix.

For what it's worth Pierre said the Pens could look to Detroit for a forward. Idk just relaying what he said.

I'd agree, but would they? If I was them, I'd try for an equivalent prospect. POJ or Legare? Or at least a 3rd plus something interesting.

Yeah well I'm down with all of that too. I just feel the team as is can still battle/compete with any team in the league but they need a little more finishing touch in the lineup, with a 40 goal scorer now missing, for some extra much needed 2 point W's....and with the cap space available, why not add? and why not soon so there's plenty of time to gel?

I think Hallender is our forward prospect to trade. 19 years old and could make the jump next season. Has missed time this season but partnered with a mid round pick should entice LA. I think that has similar value to the Charlie Coyle trade from last season, which is my comparison to Toffoli.

If Nashville just got a consistent goaltender, they'd be back in it. The division is super tight and if they could string together some dubs, they could climb pretty fast...

That's a good call. He still has some intrigue but hasn't broken out, but age wise fits well. They have a loaded prospect group so their rebuild might be faster than expected.

Oh yeah, Nashville is still in it. If they sell it's closer to the deadline and depends on how the next 6 weeks go.

Sid, Bjugstad, and Schultz all skating before morning skate.

Elsewhere, Rob Scuderi is now an assistant coach in Nashville. That seems fast. Edit apparently interim.

They will pull out a St. Louis and he will be the piece - again.

Don't know whether Sid skating in the morning means already "won't play tonight", but its my guess (and i hope to be wrong there).

Would the Pens be interested in a Galchenyuk + for Turris swap? He could be a good 3rd line C and let McCann and Bjugstad play the wings. It’s never bad to have another piece down the middle.

Hard pass with that contract.
