I was really worried about it before the season. Now, Marino replaces Schultz, Galchenyuk can walk if he makes past the deadline and be no loss, and Jarry is stealing Murray's job. Suddenly that's 14M they can use to take care of raises to McCann, Pettersson, Jarry, and Kahun and still have a little extra. - Tojo.
I'd be weary of a Pettersson Raise. |

You are more worried about the 3rd pair RD than one of our Top2 LD - 668710
No, I am concerned about the quality of play and chance of injury to our two best defensemen. The fact they are overextending themselves because of an inadequate replacement unduly puts them at this risk. |

Basically what I'm getting at is, sure they can trade Schultz and grab a third pair RD it shouldn't be that hard though. Pettersson has been iffy and Dumo may struggle from the surgery that leaves JJ. No thanks I'd make a bigger LD move and a top 6 winger. RD is just not even close to the LD and Top 6 winger need. |

I'm hoping it's not the Maatta deal. Off-season was supposedly around 3M and I could live with that as a gamble he gets better and wouldn't kill you on the 3rd pair if he doesn't. |

Better partners help that. Letang has struggled a bit lately but doesn't have Dumo to lean on for help. Marino hasn't had much help from Petterson either. |

I understand, I just disagree and that is fine.
Quite frankly we have very few NHL assets that teams will be chasing. Any trade will have to be built around futures. Be it draft picks or prospects. |

I know the Pens prefer the left/ right combinations, but with right handed talent available such as Bogosian and Tanev, wouldn't it be prudent to adjust? Tanev would be a great add IMO since he can play physical and both sides. - hipcheck_goalie

I don't think he's a good fit... He's Brooks Orpik slow. - hipcheck_goalie
He may not be fast, but I don't think he's THAT slow. I could be wrong though. He's still a positionally solid smart player and is IMO a better stop-gap than JJ next to Letang. |

I'm not sure why some are concerned about Pettersson. Maybe I'm missing something, but aside from a wonky start he's been pretty damn solid. Having some stretches of bad play doesn't make him questionable IMO. All players go through rough patches through an 82 game season.
Is he worth $4M? MAYBE not, but what's the market value for a #4 dman? I think the cost right now is in the $4M range. Obviously I'd rather $3M, but I'd be fine with around $3.5M which I think is going to be average price of the most of the Pens' RFAs. |

"Longer term" is all that I've heard. IMO that means a few months. |

Yea I don't asses who wants what and who won't take this and who wants that. Trades rarely happen the way we say/think they will. |

I will say this... Beggars can't be choosers... Yes ideally I would like to see JR trade for a stud D guy but so would every other team in the league... Expectations are way too high if you think he's going to get one... It's going to be a Tanev, or Bogosian, or a guy with flaws because no team is giving up a stud... Just trying to be realistic. |

I don't even care about the game tonight, that's a no brainier with the cap space and injuries we have... |

He shoots and hits. Something we need. He’s a bull of a player and would be worth 700k on any team. |

If Nashville became a seller, I wouldn't look at Hamhuis who is 3rd pair at best now. He's 37, he's not a top pair answer. Now at wing, Granlund and Smith would both be interesting possibilities.
This ia why it might be good to wait as more teams drop out and more options might become available from teams we weren't expecting. I'd pull the trigger on Toffoli or Krieder who are likely available now, but otherwise there's value in waiting. |
