Robin did a nice job with Greiss last year and Varly the same this year. These are not elite level goalies winning games on their own.

Correct and Greiss with Doug's non defensive system was horrendous as was Halak. Lehner with The Sabres was bad as well. Now since Halak being on a defensively responsible team is back to his career Averages again and Greiss has learned how to play goalie over one summer.

Varly has looked much better this year as far as consistency and is playing very very well with the Islanders.

Whats the common denominator? A defensive structure that the team buys into and executes night in and night out and doesn't deviate from it.

Agreed I find it incredible how these guys don’t recognize Komarov, Johnston, and Kuhnackl for their numerous accomplishments.

I'm hoping Bellows, Ladd and JHS are brought up soon as the team is struggling on the offensive side and these guys can score and have talent. (frank) defense and winning we need goals !!!

Some of us on Isles hockeybuzz get it.

We were posting for the longest time the Isles system with Cappy and Doug does not work. All the hockey experts keep mentioning the Isles needed a goalie and no word about Cappy and Doug's lousy coaching.

Adding a 3C and or top 6 wing would be ideal.

That said, the team right now and even if we get that 3C or scoring winger are going to, more than not, win 1 goal games imho. Just the system that they are playing and that isn't going to change.

Yeah I don’t think we’ll be some high scoring team with the addition of let’s say Pageau and Toffoli but I feel/know we would certainly have an improved edge with the better depth. Being able to truly roll four lines and increase your chances of scoring through the line up would help every line on this team.

Penguins are quickly becoming the team to beat and a legit contender for anyone who didn’t think they weren’t one already. Crosby still not back and losing Guentzel and the team still won’t lose pretty incredible.
