Strange stat of the day

#Isles vs. the top 6 teams in the league: 7-1-1
#Isles vs. the bottom 6 teams in the league: 3-3-2

Playing in NJ tonight.

Completely unrelated, but did anyone else catch McDavid's unreal goal from last night?

his ability to go from zero- to fast is just incredible.

the lack of power plays our team gets is really friggin absurd at this point. one of top teams in the league and we are once again last in PP opportunities.. joke.

I thought Dobson looked good last night. Only played 10 mins and only 2 in the 3rd but handled himself well. Better than against the leafs. Toews I thought was good and honestly I thought the Isles as a team played a defensively disciplined game against a fast young offensively talented team.

I thought Leddy stood out on the offensive side of the puck last night. Rushed the puck a lot and created some rushes for the isles.

you guys are all right.. lol. He was awesome!!

That must be why our Hall of fame coach who apparently agrees with me benched him for most of the game. He had 1 decent rush up ice...

he took a terrible time to shift that caused a 2-on-1. He lost the front of the net a couple of times and was bailed out by our forwards... but yeah you guys are all right. I am wrong..

he played ok.. but still making a lot of mistakes as you would expect from an 18 year old. He should be in the AHL but they can't do that.. so he will play.

I thought he was bad in Toronto but he played with much more poise last night. Is he ready for prime time, no, he definitely needs to strengthen his defensive zone play and just get physically stronger and just mature. Kid is celebrating his 20th Bday today and really had no time to ease into a pro game and or life style starting in the AHL as you said. With that all being taken into consideration I think he's carrying himself very well.

Don't know if aho will do as well but we will have to see.
With time I think he will be a very productive NHL top 4 D man.

I think offensively driven, talented/up tempo teams will have many more PP opportunities than a team that plays more defensive as the Islanders do. Just forces more of the holding hooking type penalties that are called and on the radar. That said, I don't think the isles have gotten the respect they deserve from the league and neither has Barzal which would help in that situation as well.
Just my opinion of course.

Saying he played pretty good does not = awesome. Hockeybuzz exaggeration.

Now you’re under exaggerating you have to find a happy medium.

They're clearly going to shelter him and keep him on the bench when the game is tight late, but he's playing mostly well. I can deal with things like getting dangled by a veteran or getting out-muscled by someone for a turnover. That's largely a product of his age and inexperience. As long as he's adapting to the system and playing fundamentally well, those are the building blocks we should all be judging him on.

I think he's doing just fine and I hope they keep him in the lineup tonight. I have a hard time believing they're going to scratch the kid on his birthday. There will, of course, be bumps along the road but those are learning experiences and it's all good for him, in the long run.

100%. NHL development for defenseman is normally a bumpy curve. Look at Dahlin who was touted as the best defensive prospect maybe ever. Let him take his lumps as long as they’re not too excessive and learn the NHL game. He’ll get there eventually when he beefs up and adjusts to the speed the game is played at this level.

Correct on pp situations, if you have the puck and players are chasing you in their own zone they are much more apt to take penalties. Teams that have a lot of possession time are more than likely at the top to the league in pp opportunities. Same with players, barzal is top three in possession in the ozone and also in penalties drawn.

I think there's something there, but then again the Leafs have the 3rd fewest amount of penalties drawn (behind us and MTL) and they don't know what the word defense means

They also dont stand up for each other when another team takes liberties so there go a whole lot of penalties. Speaking of toronto heres a hometown boys take on playing there

Maybe you can but if it becomes the norm Trotz isn't going to, thats for sure. Mistakes and turn overs wind up in your net and the Isles can not afford it especially when they are struggling to score. Reason he saw less than 2 minutes in the 3rd in a 1-0 game.

Again as long as they are bumps and not a Belgium Block road

I think the kid is going to be a player just needs time. Shame he didn't get a chance to marinade in the AHL for a bit but thats the rule so.

Yes Sir, true freshman, 2 quick years and then Colorado. Kid can skate, play both sides of the puck well and is smart. He's probably going to turn into one of the best in the league for years to come.

Oof "The Islanders’ prospect pool is not that attractive — “Everything good they have is on their roster,” one rival executive said Monday — so aiming for depth additions may also be the only way to upgrade for Lamoriello, using mid-round draft picks to scoop up forwards."
