OK, Darth and the other Star Wars fanatics on the board, what say you? (from The Athletic's latest Q&A mailbag)

(personally, I think it was a missed opportunity to compare Bettman to Darth)

Keith would have missed the net or shot puck into the goalie pads....
- glennjpawlak22

Just so I understand, we’re now criticizing a 2 time Norris winning defenseman, 1 time Conn Smythe, 3 time Stanley Cup winner, Gold Medal winner, because you didn’t like his scoring ability?

The guy who was an Ironman in the playoffs? The future HOFer?

That’s a Blackhawk fan’s equivalent of a first world problem.

Keith scored the GWG against TBL in game 6 - on a drive and follow-up on the rebound.

Excellent action in a scoreless first quarter - Caps at Canes - two very good teams going back and forth doing things the Hawks can’t - skate fast, drive the net with multiple options , complete passes on the go.

What hockey should be.

cruising some you tube video and came across this chickenpoop cheap shot by Tie Domi. He has to do be in the top 5 POS's to ever play the game. How the hell did he survive 15 years in the league.

I don't think there's a Dman playing who has done what Keith has done.

Incredible. That's the type of poop that needs to go away. But he is "hard to play against" or some nonsense.

And these idiot announcers lmao, Niedermayer was one of the greatest skaters yet he just "fell down".

Doughty has been pretty good this decade as well, they are one and two, and you can build a case for either one.

Perry was quite contrite and apologetic about his hit after the game but this suspension is on target.

The AHL announced their all star selections. The players are choosen for each position from each of the three conferences. I have no idea the format for playing the game. Anyway, with Icehog scoring aces Queeneville and D Sikura in Chicago, only one player was choosen - don't know if each team must.be represented. Due to his goaltending earlier (and not last two games) Laakinen is your Icehog representative.

Also Rockford has had trouble scoring goals after both scoring aces were recalled.

So, are you saying Gilbert will win the Norris in 2023-24?

My bet is Gilbert isn’t in the NHL in 5 years. He’s a placeholder until some of the better D prospects are ready. Heck, based on what AEL has said, it might be time to give Lucas Carlsson a shot.

- scottak

I would have to agree that Gilbert could be a short-term placeholder. If each of the D prospects meet potential, Gilbert could be edged out even if he steadily improves.

While it would be great if Gilbert exceeded expectations to become a long-term fixture on the blueline, it would be problematic if any of the vaunted Big 4 in Boqvist, Mitchell, Beaudin, and Vlasic fell short.

Assuming the Big 4 did meet potential, that's the future Top 4. Gilbert would then need to be better than the rest in Krys, Regula, Carlsson, Moberg, and Galvas. Still possible to be 3rd pair or even just the 7th man. Again, though, if 2-3 of the rest meet potential, then Gilbert could be searching for a new team.

And this doesn't count any future D draft picks, free agents, or trade acquisitions, i.e. if the Hawks draft a defenseman with their 2020 1st rounder like Drysdale (Erie), Sanderson (USNTDP), or Barron (Halifax).

There are shows on SyFy that are better, if you are looking for sci-fi. As I have told others, you only think this show is good because of all the bad before it. Or like Eddie Murphy once said, “Feed a starving man a cracker and you would think you gave a steak.”

I'm not disagreeing. My point was there isn't one specific dman who is playing perfectly. Gilbert got dogpiled on because of one game. One puck bounced off of his foot. How many times has that happened to Maatta? Every dman has their flaws, & I just talked about Boq's. I never said he wouldn't grow out of them or that I didn't like him. I think the Ahl would have been better, but 2 big injuries on d played into that.
- I Am The Breadman

He's been bad all year. He's the opposite of Nylander in that he tries hard but the same in that no idea where to be on the ice and what to do with the puck.

It's not like he's getting to places a half step slow like Murphy was when he started here and you could say at least there's hope. It's just consistently bad. He defends about as well as Gus but without a really good shot.

HIGH COMEDY here. I know Anisimov is tracking at a brisk 25 point clip for the year (when extrapolated for games missed), but he wouldn't look good anywhere on this team.

Don't you know, k-wolf? All ex-Hawks are HOF bound. Joki, Frolik, AA, Leddy,Schmaltz....a who's who of Hall of Fame talent.

Trying to plug holes to pick up for Gallagher's injury.

Bergevin is going all in to make the playoffs.....gotta think if they miss he will be canned.

Don't know if this has been discussed yet but there is an interesting article in The Rink regarding the Oilers and Avalanche being very interested in Saad. Evan Bouchard and a 1st or 2nd for Saad was one thought. It certainly would free up cap space for next year. Thoughts?
