Two bad penalties, Lehner not very good.

Blew a two-goal lead. Tied it late - gave up a goal later. Lots of multi-goal leads given up (or almost given up) recently. They aren’t good enough to control a game with the lead.

Needed to get a point tonite - especially tied late.

- StLBravesFan

yep...were with in inches of blowing a 4 goal lead vs the flames
they have coughed up a lot of 2 and 3 goal leads this year...
but when you are at the bottom of the league in almost all defensive categories and require your goalies to sport 95% save percentages to have a chance..alot of leads are going to disappear..

While is always sucks losing to the Canucks there is no shame in losing to this group in Vancouver.

To your point, the Hawks are still finding their way and they’ll lose games like this in the process. We should see gradual improvement and the season goes on. The Hawks are not yet a playoff team, they will but, just not yet.

When I say the Hawks will be a playoff team I mean they will be in 20/21 or 21/22, certainly not this season.

should've pulled Lehner after Vancouver came back to tie it 4-4, not sure why they didn't put Crawford in
- MichaeLionheart

Agreed - and definitely after the knee tweak. He was obviously laboring to move.

Stan’s negotiating a new contract with Lehner, they needed him to lay and egg to bring down his value. That’s smart GM’ing.

It was Marc Crawford's fault. The Hawks were playing fine until he got back.

The Hawks sure could use another defensive forward on the team, like Frolik who was just acquired for peanuts.

I am going with that ,sent him out to scout . Lehner did not have his best game ,not his fault either ,Markstrom played very well ,was really hoping they could come away with a point when Kane scored late . Lehner needs a break he had a tough night physically .Like Quennville game .Think Nylander should come back in .
Heading home ,just can't crap the bed against Detoilet

The better team won tonight. Don't like it, but it is what it is right now. Need to go after Detroit.

Which defensive pairs were on the ice for the goals against? There appears to be a pattern.

6-39
39-56

5-56

2-27

Gilbert on for 4 GA. Maatta for 3. Gustafsson for 2.

If JC wants to make the playoffs with this roster, it’s going to take playing Keith, Murphy and Boqvist the majority of the minutes.

Gilbert is a rookie, and prone to mistakes.
Maatta is not good.
Gustafsson is what he is.

Unfortunately, the Blackhawks are 1 defenseman short, after the deHaan & Seabrook injuries.

Boqvist is a rookie, but he seems to be in position and able to get the puck out with a good first pass. Gilbert is not ready for the NHL, frequently out of position, but he hits and fights and that’s more important.

Gilbert has contributed more than Jokiharju ever did and he was picked 13 over all. Defenseman take time to develop. Measure him not on where he is, but how far he has progressed since training camp.

He's trending in the right direction.

Not too mention, this defense has made Keith look bad at times. When your team defense is not tight, it pulls even the best defenseman out of position.

Dennis Gilbert's on-ice numbers are similar to what Brandon Manning's were with the Blackhawks. Gilbert has been on the ice for an average of 4.45 goals against per 60 minutes in 5-on-5 play in 18 games this season. Manning was at 4.36 in 27 games with the Hawks.

but he can fight and hit helmets with his fists really well...

i prefer more fights = less ice time

OK, Darth and the other Star Wars fanatics on the board, what say you? (from The Athletic's latest Q&A mailbag)

What current Blackhawk players are what Star Wars characters? — Jon F.

Jon, I just want you to know that I ignored my children for far too long to do this. I hope you can live with that.

Patrick Kane: Poe Dameron. Cocky, but backs it all up.

Jonathan Toews: Leia Organa. The general with unrivaled experience, in whom everyone believes and for whom everyone will go to war.

Duncan Keith: Chewbacca. Pre-dates everyone. Ol’ reliable, never lets you down. Shaggy.

Marian Hossa: Luke Skywalker. The missing piece, the perfect specimen, who put the rebellion/team over the top.

Patrick Sharp: Han Solo. Indispensable, impeccably coiffed, yet somehow always playing second fiddle.

Niklas Hjalmarsson: Wedge Antilles. An unheralded but significant factor in all three major battles.

Brent Seabrook: Yoda. The beloved, wise veteran of wars gone by.

Dave Bolland: R2D2. Crafty, versatile, feisty, clutch, snarky.

Adam Boqvist: Rey. The talented newcomer just coming into their powers.

Daniel Carcillo: Finn. A former bad guy turned fan-favorite.

Jeremy Colliton: General Hux. Young and in command, but cursed to toil in the shadow of a giant.

Corey Crawford: Admiral Ackbar. Never got the credit he deserved despite his steady work in the biggest moments.

Alex DeBrincat: BB-8. The plucky newcomer who plays a lot bigger than his size

Erik Gustafsson: Kylo Ren. Supremely gifted, yet incredibly polarizing. You love him one minute, you hate him the next.

Henri Jokiharju: Rose Tico. Made a huge splash early on, only to be inexplicably cast aside.

Marcus Kruger: Amilyn Holdo. A rock who was never fully appreciated until he was gone.

Robin Lehner: Babu Frik. The newcomer everyone immediately falls in love with.

John McDonough: Sheev Palpatine. The man pulling all the strings all along.

Artemi Panarin: Darth Maul. So cool, but here so briefly. You couldn’t take your eyes off him.

Joel Quenneville: Supreme Leader Snoke. The seemingly unstoppable ruler whose tenure came to a swift and stunning end.

Brad Richards: Cara Dune. The mercenary at the tail end of a storied career.

Brandon Saad: Obi-Wan Kenobi. The seasoned veteran unexpectedly brought back into action years later.

Andrew Shaw: C3P0. Highly useful despite being best known as comic relief.

Dale Tallon: Qui-Gon Jinn. The man who set the whole thing in motion, but never got to see it through.

Teuvo Teravainen: Anakin Skywalker. The chosen one and the one who got away.

Kimmo Timonen: IG-11. The ruthless rival turned Teuvo’s cuddly nurse droid.

Antoine Vermette: Jyn Erso. A one-hit wonder, but what a hit it was.

Kris Versteeg: Lando Calrissian. Smooth, loquacious, occasionally unreliable, but money when it counts.

David Rundblad: Jar-Jar Binks. Let’s never speak of him again.

Jiri Sekac: Captain Phasma. Wait, who are you again?

Kirby Dach: Baby Yoda. The hope of the entire galaxy.

(personally, I think it was a missed opportunity to compare Bettman to Darth)

Just no. Jokiharju’s NHL career is going to last about 10 years longer than Gilbert’s, and at a much higher level.

Joki was doing pretty much what Boqvist is doing this season, until the coaching change.

If you meant fighting, then yes, Gilbert is a much better fighter than Jokiharju.

So you are into sarcasm because a 4th round choice is not much for an improved hungry team on the upswing. Addition of a quality forward if for no other reason than injuries occur so depth matters

Interesting stuff in Powers today.

Murphy - Koekkoek is the best Blackhawk D pair in xGf (from Charting Hockey), followed closely by Keith-Boqvist & Keith-Murphy.

More from Powers on Murphy:
29. Murphy is having a career season. He’s never going to show up much on the scoresheet, but his underlying numbers have been superb. In Evolving-Hockey’s GAR (goals above replacement) and WAR (wins above replacement) models, both of which take every facet of the game into account, Murphy leads the Blackhawks in both categories. He has a career-best 8.4 GAR (he had a combined 5.1 GAR over the last two seasons) and 1.5 WAR (combined 1.0 the last two seasons). He’s tied for 40th in GAR and tied for 35th in WAR in the league.

I'm typically a stats guy but coocoo is terrible on the eye test.

Murphy's a good hockey player.

Amazing when you think about it, except for the big 4 (Oduya, Jammer, Keith, and Seabs),, either drafted or traded for thrived under Q.
- LAHawk

It took Oduya a year to figure it out but was a rock after that. Former pizza man if anyone here remembers that.
