Well not just a 2nd alone Minivan, come on? He had one 50 point year in his career and Vegas got Stone for a 2nd and a defensive prospect. Why didn’t he offer Juolevi and a 2nd.
He may have? Anyways enough of that I’m on to the flames game tonight. - Pacificgem
Vegas got Stone who's older and on an expiring contract for a mid first round prospect which was considered an A-prospect and a 2nd round pick.
Miller needs 3 more points in the next 3 games to be on the same pace as the guy making 4 million dollars more a year than him. |

Looks like they were the only team willing to go 1st+ - 1970vintage
Maybe.
I thought they were trying to trade someone else but JB wanted Miller. Maybe it was a lesser price for someone else but JB wanted Miller so they asked for a conditional first instead of 2nd. |

Vegas is a team who had just been to the cup final, got robbed of a playoff run by the refs last year, had a ton of draft picks and prospects and is set up to make another playoff run this year. I don't think you can compare the two. |

From what I’ve read on this site, you can compare whatever you want to make whatever scenario you want.
Mini does a much better job of using comparable scenarios than most posters here. |

I make an attempt to take a player in similar situations as size, age, contracts, a style of play that is somewhat comparable and put emphasis on like a rankings system to how close they would come to each other.
Others may see things differently. That's why I can come up with a few different ones to come to a common ground. |

Just watched the Jets get beat by STL. Been a good match up for years. Winnipeg needs some 200 foot player in their top 6. There is so much speed going north south but only in one direction. Its as if the Jets are trying to sprint a 1600 meter race during the games.
I've always liked watching Jaden Schwartz. He's a second fiddle play driver.
I don't know if Podkolzin has that kind of playmaking to be that player. I wonder if Madden does though.
When I watched the u18s last season, Watching Dylan Hollaway it made me think of Schwartz playing style. |

It's strange how we match up well against the blues but the Jets we look like crap. |

Yeah really strange. Different teams, different styles. I'd like a team that doesn't have a weakness and can beat any team on any given night.
I think Van has a more similar roster composition to STL. |

Yegor Zamula (PHI) was also pretty high, 21:36.
Vasili Podkolzin (VAN) led all Russian forwards with 19:23. |

True...he (Stone) just came to mind as I was out walking the dog with my phone not my computer. There are much better comparisons to prove he overpaid, but whatever, it’s turned out really well for him and the team.
While I wait for the Seahawks game I’ll research what a 40-50 point 26 year old player under contract has gone for in the past. |

It’s called leverage you moron, I can’t believe you’re in the business world. - Pacificgem
You are far too simple to understand that there are multiple factors/ variables in a negotiation. It’s too complex for you and you should stay in your lane. Stick to complaining and stuffing your face |

Probably. Hence why they got their player. Pretending a second would have got the deal is a stupid comment from a stupid man. Merry Christmas |

 I’m sure you will...
Actually it doesn’t happen all that often theses days. Charlie Coyle is a very close comparison, traded at 26 years old, had one 50 point season, had term left on his contract.
Coyle has career 265 point and Miller has 273, Coyle’s played ~60 more games though.
Boston traded Ryan Donato and a 5th for him, Donato was a middling prospect and a 2nd round pick.
I get the feeling that other GM’s around the league know Jim Benning is easy money |

you’re so cute with your 10 year old barbs. Yes it’s always just black and white, no variables whatsoever....I would’ve never guessed. |

We picked up a young player on pace for 30 G 70 Pts. Coyle is on pace for 14 G 40 Pts.
I won't state the obvious. |

Charlie Coyle has half as many points this season as JT Miller does. I don't see that as a comparable.
Brayden Schenn would be a closer and it cost STL 2- first round picks plus Lethera.
Schenn in Philly 424 games 246 points. |

That’s completely irrelevant lol, this isn’t about their roles or their points THIS YEAR, it’s about similar players at the time of their trades.
As you say though, he obviously made out well despite the price, Miller has been awesome playing with Pettersson and Boeser on the first line. Coyle has 20 points in 39 games playing a middle six role.
At the time of their trades they were similar players. |

I do agree Schenn is a good comparison though, shows you how varied the returns can be. Blues were competing for a Cup though, Canucks just finished 6th last. |
