Hi Carol.

Really like to get your opinion on this article and the concept of killing pro sports playoffs to save the regular seasons. Interesting topic to say the least.

If they want to put more importance into the regular season then they have to do away with back to back games completely.

It's pretty simple. North Americans just aren't smart compared to the overseas cousins.

I think they're just as smart, they're just being fed a pooptier product.

From what that guy was talking about wouldn't and doesn't work in all sports. In season tournaments in Europe are generally against other countries or against different leagues in the same country.

Going to have NHL teams plays against AHL, CHL and College teams, I don't think so.

For Baseball 162 season and 2 playoff rounds is pretty stupid. That's something that can be changed easily.

Rest of the sports you can't change much.

You want people to be interested and show up to games, make it affordable.

In terms of changing hockey,

2 Divisions instead of 4. Then you could implement the Toews game schedule a lot easier.

Playoffs being 1 vs 16 2 vs 15

3 points for a regulation win, 2 for OT win.

Changing junior leagues would be extremely simply but also probably a little more costly.

Have a european style tournament like the Champions league. Memorial cup but not just winners but everyone without the round robin teams randomly selected to play against each other in a winner takes all or back to back weekend series.

I stopped reading when it said the Panthers had more than 10,000 for a home game...

Hi Bloated,

And thanks to everyone else for chiming in on this topic.

I wrote a piece last spring about how I think the NHL's playoff format is just fine.

https://www.forbes.com/si...yoff-format/#33dc4b9b1d12

I started writing a big reply to this, talking about the differences in attendance trends across the major North American leagues (NHL is doing relatively well, comparatively), ticketing, big-screen TVs, and demographic shifts.

Then, I realized this is probably enough fodder for an article. So most of it has been pasted into my Drafts folder, where I can check numbers and do more research.

Simply put, I'll say that when I first saw the headline of that "Eliminate the Playoffs" article, I clicked past it - I think that's oversimplified and won't really address the issues the writer brings up.. After going back to read it at your suggestion, I didn't change my mind.

I like the way the NHL format is currently structured - and we've got a tighter race than ever this year, which gives tremendous importance to regular-season games. There's a reason why I give you detailed updates on the standings in nearly ever blog - and it's December!

Best-case scenario if they want to do a mid-season tournament, it's the Olympics.

I will keep you posted when I finish thinking this through!!

I'm thinking 0-1 after the first and 6-2 in the end. LA shook off the rust last night but are old and tired by 2nd and 3rd.

Watching the Rangers-Leafs. Fun watching Leafs defenseman Barrie, he is horrible., not sure who #47 is but a pretty bad player, as well.

Every time I see Ryan Strome picking up points for NYR (33 in 38 games now) I can't help but wonder what possessed Peter Chiarelli to trade valuable right-shot C and McDavid's buddy for Ryan Spooner currently playing in Minsk in KHL

Ryan Strome is 26 washed up, his best years behind him now. He forget he was supposed to do better in his so called "prime" years.
