There’s 15 teams in one conference and 16 in the other, you might want to check your math on that #1vs8 - Pacificgem

How about the president cup winners get a 10% cap advantage the next season, that would make winning during season have a true prize after 82 games, without tarnishing the playoffs |

Owners would be throwing away millions and would lose two months of hockey. Not interested at all. - VANTEL
But as I said, I stopped paying for regular season and will save the my money to see playoff hockey as it’s the only season that really counts. As Kawhi said “regular season is just practice for what really matters”.
Owners would make their cake either way. |

Thanks as always Carol. I understand it will not happen but I’ve felt the regular season is broken in most pro sports and something has to be done to fix it.
I think this whole “second season” is horse poop. As a Canuck season ticket holder for many years it was becoming obvious that I was wasting my money.
Instead of in-season gimmicks to make the regular season significant, just make it the only thing that matters. Essentially the entire season is one big playoff push.
Thanks for the link and looking forward to your full take! - bloatedmosquito
I think Stamkos is right. “From a perspective of what you’re grinding 82 games for during a season is to finish as high as you can so you can have an advantage come playoffs, I don’t think it’s an advantage to Toronto or Boston,” Stamkos said.
Clearly he has no problem with the regular season and it means a lot to the players.
It should be a bigger advantage. The league wanted the first round to have more rivalry type rounds. I don't think that has happened. I would switch back to the 1-8 and forget division winners. |

I know lol. But that’s the attitude that’s starting to prevail across all sports and the RS attendance numbers are plummeting.
I have no idea what the solution is but the non-playoff suggestion is the boldest I’ve seen to date.

I am sure the teams that get beat in the first round would be against the format and the teams that go all the way could care less.

Yup. Love the intensity. Just wish we could see more of it during the regular season.
Some games you can tell the players don’t give a poop. |

The top 16 teams play a round Robin and the top 2 teams play a best of 3 for the cup.
The bottom 8 teams get relegated to the nhl division b, for a season. |

Last year #1 played #8 in both conferences, it’s the second team that gets screwed. If you wanna call it that. Boston ended up playing Toronto instead of Carolina, probably a good thing, and SJ ended up playing Vegas instead of Dallas. |

The solution is that the tickets need to cost less for hockey. My friend said of her season tickets from when WPG first came back for the same money she gets 4 less games than it used to be.
Everything else in life goes up in price and wages aren't going up as fast. People are going to put food in their mouths and shelter over their heads instead of going to sporting events. |

I think Benning’s too afraid to trade Markstrom as he’s finally seen some improvement after five years of losing. He probably should trade him before July 1st and go with Demko and an experienced backup, but he won’t, because he’s not very good at his job. - Pacificgem

You have three options.
Trade Markstrom and sign a cheap vet back up to stabilize Demko.
Trade Demko and bring up Dipietro next season.
Keep both and risk having to pay or losing one in the expansion draft.
I'm willing to bet that JB goes for as long as he can and ends up with the latter. - manvanfan
Are there no other goalies that are on other teams that will need to be made available for the expansion draft in 2 years. The way I am interpreting this discussion is if Markstrom is signed then Demko is the best goalie of choice for Seattle.

You’re not building your team around Demko, he’s just a part of the team like every other player. As long as he gets a good back up to take the pressure off him, that’s the sensible way to go, at least in my opinion. Signing Markstrom creates troubles down the road, which is exactly what Benning will probably do because hes stupid - Pacificgem

Bo at 0.72 and Tanner at 0.62 ppg, playing against the other teams top lines, is still pretty good production, now if they could get another decent winger, that line would be just fine. - Reubenkincade

EK is out to lunch as usual. I don’t see Dubas trading away Kap to lose a goalie in the e-draft anyways. Us he that dumb? |
