BB scored 29 when he was an unknown entity. Playing with EP, they will be facing the opposition’s best. I don’t think that is a reasonable example of why EP lacks the ability to make others better.

Pretty sure Bo's line plays against the opposition best.
I am not arguing about Elias being a bad player, he has phenomenal talent, Lefty made a claim that Bo doesn't make his linemates better, I disagree.

The coincidence is Miller is also a very good player.
I think it is funny how the Elias for captain crowd, can make claims that Bo is bad at almost everything and Elias is a god. Lmfao

I am happy we have 2 very good centers, in Elias and Bo, while others try to make claims like Gaudette will be 2nd line centre.

- Reubenkincade

Fair enough. Comparing Bo to EP is unfair to Bo and I’m with you on not being sold on Gaudette as a full time center.

I think Bo usually does when he’s on his game and they play a similar style to him, but I don’t think a guy like Leivo improves a whole lot playing with Bo.

Agreed, Leivo is a fill in type of player, who couldn't elevate his game playing with Elias either.

Oh, sorry. Didn’t realize this pertained to Bo’s own abilities compared to EP’s.

I see where you’re going with this. Bo’s awesome and so is EP.

We’re debating the value of our teams best players. We’re (frank)ing nuts. lol.

We've heard this every year, the Miller trade looks good but Benning continues to trade away better/more picks than he acquires.

I mainly have issues with his early trading always of picks/prospects, I would've liked to have kept McCann and those draft picks around to help provide depth around the current young core. Literally none of those "age gap" players have impacted the big picture here, in fact players like Sutter and Sven are now cap dumps. I'd rather have their cap hits completely off the books and I'm guessing Benning would too.

I have less problems with him trading picks now if it's for players in the 20-26 age group that can be core pieces like Miller is.

Unreal, but this explains a lot

And that’s only because Benning likes to load up on 5th-7th round picks, but at least he’s a +

Should probably trade OJ before his value drops any further. -3 tonight

I mean come on, I was being dramatic for emphasis, if we’re being literal of course Horvat makes other players better with the odd nice dish on occasion (see Tanev’s OT goal). But he doesn’t do it often enough for a center, his puck distribution skills are not great, it’s not a secret.

I never claimed he was a bad player, he’s clearly not, he’s just not a great passer for a center. Seems to be improving in that area though.

The discussion was about the process not the actual outcomes, so I understand your point but guessing what would've happened isn't the point. Building through drafting and developing is something Benning's done but he's also tried to quick fix things.

Which the other poster says other GM's have been prone to but not Benning, which I disagreed with, that's all.

- Pacificgem

True, but many of Bennings past mistakes haven't really come back to bite us in the ass.
2014 2nd for Linden Vey = Roland McKeown. Meh
2015 2nd for Sven Beartschi = Rasmus Andersson. Meh.
2016 2nd for Gudbranson = Rasmus Asplund. Meh
2017 we kept ours and had a 2nd one.
2018 we kept it
2019 we kept it

All in all the players drafted with the 2nds we gave up were meh, and we really only missed out on a couple players that there was no guarantee we took anyways. At the time they were terrible for us, but have 0 impact on our current situation, nor our future situation.

Wonder if TB would’ve taken him + a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick for Miller

Let's not nitpick. The likely hood of that player being better than the player we got for that pick is probably less. Just look at Gadjvovich

True, but 2015 between our 2nd and pick 66 there was noting of note, 2014 we missed out on Montour and Dvorak, and 2016 we missed out on Debrincat. So out of 2 picks we missed out on 3 possible players, one is amazing and the other 2 are alright. Again, there is only 1 player in 3 years that would have been ground breaking for us. The odds we took that player are not extremely high.
