Well are you going to tell me he hasnt had enough time ? How many years in till you start to question if he is the guy for the job ? - Devilish4
He's been GM for 4 years. Draft picks come in at 18 and a lot of the time players don't develop until they are 22+. We've got young guys on the team that are clearly not top NHL talents yet but given time it's a good core to build around. No GM has a perfect track record and there have been moves that haven't worked out. However, I think the majority of what he has done has improved the team. Before Shero our prospect pool was actually no players. Now we have a lot of solid prospects at all positions.
Your expectations are way off you think that this team could be turned around in 4 years from absolutely nothing. Go look at the 15-16 roster and tell me how many players from that team are playing for us right now. I'm not saying that where the team is right now is acceptable, because being perennial losers isn't. However, Shero is putting this team into a better spot each season than the previous in terms of stockpiling talent for the future and now. |

I agree that there where no prospects here when he took over but that doesnt mean what he has brought in has that high of a ceiling either. We have lots of prospects and a lot of them arent anything a few of them are decent and outside of Smith its questionable wether or not we have a blue chip or not.
4 years and it looks like we are still 5 years away as the only two real star pieces on the roster are the two first overall picks after that there is a couple good players and a ton of depth.
We arent 1 or 2 pieces from competing we are like 5 or 7 serious pieces. |

Well come on what are you alluding to with that question you asked me obviously I thought and expected them to improve and move forward not backwards. Which not only spot in the standing pointed to but the trade of Hall so no I didnt honestly expect either of those but Ray never planned to make the play offs this year and made all those moves just because he could. |

Look at the Blackhawks team. They draft Toews and Kane and are just awful for a couple of years but some of the other players develop with them and they get a couple of vets and then the team is the best team of the decade. Hischier and Hughes are that 1-2 combo along with good young players like Boqvist, Bratt, Zacha and Butcher, all good complimentary players. He gets Palmieri and Vatanen, trades for Gusev who I think has played well this year and if we can keep him is a good player. Subban hasn't been good this year but that's the entire team. Let's see how he plays the rest of the year and more importantly next.
I think the biggest stain on Shero's record is that the goaltending has been terrible and there is not much he can do about Schneider getting injured to the point in which he career is over. And the other big one is that he put faith into Hynes to coach a bad team hoping he would become better along with the team and he didn't improve. Those are all valid criticisms. |

A lot of the prospects hes gotten us are still under 21, so we have no idea what they are or what they will become. Our core of Nico, Jack, Boqvist, Bratt, Zacha, Smith, maybe Bahl? is a good group. Plus add another top 5 pick this year to that core and its a solid group. But its still young, they need time. Who knows what else Ray gets at the deadline this year to add to it. Shero has made some good moves and brought in solid talent, it just hasnt translated to the ice. He needs to be held responsible, but its also not all on him. Just like it wasnt all on Hynes. |

I will give him the goalie situation but I am not sold on a lot of the guys we have drafted in the rounds that arent 1. Thats not to say I think they are worthless I just think our pool should be deeper in high ceiling guys. |

That you are looking at all of those moves with hindsight. Everyone from fans to the media was praising Shero's offseason, it obviously didn't work as planned for various reasons, but that doesn't mean the foundation of what is being accomplished is flawed. |

This statement contradicts itself. Later rounds are terrible for finding elite talent. |

That is all part of drafting though, right? You never know what you're actually going to get outside of the few sure bets at the top of the draft. Think about Bratt who nobody thought be be anything and I think all of us like the kid a lot. On draft night I remember a lot of people being happy with McLeod as a pick and he hasn't really turned out like we thought he would yet, but there is still time there. I think everybody is pleased the Ty Smith was OHL player of the year and might be the #1 defeseman of the future that we desperately need.
Some teams only get one NHL player from a draft. With Hughes and Hischier we were guaranteed good players. Now we just need some of the other guys to come through and then it's a solid draft. |

The only reason thats a core is because there is 2 potential franchise centers and he shouldnt get all the credit for that.
Ty Smith I believe in but as a realisit he isnt here yet and the clock is ticking on how high his ceiling might be.
Mcleod is going on 4 years here and his numbers have never screamed top 6.
Zacha is just getting there, Boqvist looks promising but again if he fizzles, if Mcleod, Smith fizzle we arent in a great spot. Literally the only pieces that are legit building blocks are Nico and Hughes the rest have lots to prove and Im not writing all of them off but they all also arent going to reach their maximum potential thats why we need a lot more guys with high high ceilings vs all of these guys we got who will be Woods and Muellers. |

Im saying we love the safe picks you take it however you want. We have drafted more in the later rounds then early rounds and we draft safe players more time then not so we are filled with a bunch of lower ceiling guys. Thats not me saying Bratt sucks or you never find guys late. |

Just curious why you are saying that this is out of hindsight? That comment was solely off of Rays Comments that he never offered Hall a contract, never aimed to make the play offs this year despite the moves he made and he also didnt make them to try and keep taylor. Those where all things that Shero claimed in his recent interviews... I didnt need hindsight for his own words. |

The good thing is that we have no idea who will and who will not reach their maximum potential, as everybody develops at different rates. Also, how the hell is the clock ticking on Ty Smith? He's a (frank)ing 19 year old defenseman, thats just an asinine thing to say. We're lucky he's not with us this year witnessing this dumpster fire of a season |

He isnt sitting on pause somewhere... And he didnt look great at all at camp dony forget that so what if he doesnt next year is he still pegged as a potential top 2 guy or do you start to temper expectations.
I want these guys to turn out I want the team to be the best thats exactly why Im going to question whats going on. |

I think all of the 1st rounders we've taken since Shero was around were guys people thought were the "right" picks. Zacha was one that people were happy with but probably the most debated that we could have taken somebody else at the time. McLeod and Ty Smith seemed like picks that most people were happy with. Also, it seems obvious now but there was question if Patrick would be the better player and he's had a lot of injuries in his career so far. Also know it's early but I'm very pleased with Hughes over Kakko. Right now it looks like we're at 4/5 players going to be NHL regulars with McLeod still being a maybe. Which is way better than what we were under Lou with none of our 1st rounders being NHL players for like 6 years straight. |

Quote me saying Ray should be fired today because of this season and not because of some conclussion you came to reading a comment I made.
If i wanted Ray fired it would be for his 4 years here and the lack of direction at this point in his tenure.
Let me ask you this do you think Ray is selling Vats and maybe others at the deadline or in short that we will be sellers or do you think we stay pat for who knows why?
I ask because if yes then what is the direction of the team? Ray got here didnt have much but still seemed like he wash pushing to make the team better each year through trades and drafting. He traded for palms which to me signals the sign of moving forward ( the first sign ) then he hads Hall big sign he is moving forward then moves Rico team make a more complete team and then he even starts adding at the deadline for a play off push and now we are all the way back to rebuilding because you think we will sell at the deadline? |

I think Zacha and McLeod were a little more controversial but agree with the rest. |
