It's not about getting a rental, it is about who that rental is. Hall is off the board (which is fine with me) because I don't think he fits the mold of Trotz' system and would require a kings ransom being traded in the division. The other 3 you mention I agree are not the type of players that are going to blow anyone away with so it isn't really worth sacrificing assets for them.

This brings me to a player that probably is not available. Yet. Mike Hoffman. The Panthers are still in the mix for the playoffs so it is doubtful they would move him now. You would have to think though that Tampa, Montreal or Toronto is going to make a run and with the strength of the Metro at least as of now the 2 wild cards will not come out of the Atlantic. That could make him available. That is not to say he wouldn't want to re-sign in Florida. Nice state and weather. Favorable taxes. But at 30, he may be looking to get paid and win and it is debatable whether Florida is going to seriously challenge for a cup. At a 5.187 cap hit for the rest of the year, the Isles could bring him in and still have room for more especially if they unload a NHL player in return.

Hoffman on the Isles would be a difference maker. Last year he put up 70 points which would make him a top 3 scorer on the Isles. Although his production is down this year, you can attribute some of that to the style being played in Florida under Quenville sacrificing some offense for defense. Sound familiar? With a solid coach, new arena coming, excellent training facility the Isles very well could be a team that he would want to sign an extension with.

The question would be, do you spend a ton on a 30 year old with term that could be a liability in 3-5years or do you continue go with youth. Andrew Ladd would be a prime example of bringing in a scorer that gets injured under a long contract that hasn't produced. I think it is fair to say though Hoffman is a better player than Ladd and would be worth the risk if LL feels this team is 1 scorer away from cup contention.

You are but it's always the same excuses or mishaps year after year. The isles are a very good team and I hope lou does something to address the top 9 and I hope it's not ladd

😂

I think you can attribute most of that to Bobrovsky playing like Kevin Poulin for the first 25 games but yeah😂

That stat is goals for per game. My point was that Florida has very clearly not sacrificed offense for anything, because they have the fourth most productive offense in the league. Hoffman's lower scoring (which really isn't that bad: 12g, 11a, 23pts in 33gp) is probably because his linemates are Boyle and Dadonov instead of any of FLA's top threats.

Lou Lamoriello has decided to step back from the GM role and oversee hockey ops as President. It is expected that Garth Snow will return to his old post and will be announced in a press conference Wednesday at 11am

Lamoriello sighted Snows ability to tap into the #isles hockeybuzz forums to form new and innovative hockey ideas and strategies. A truly bold and brilliant strategy

We'll see if it means anything for tonight's game vs. Predators but Derick Brassard, along with Tom Kuhnhackl and Noah Dobson out early working with the #Isles goalies.

I mean I'm happy he's reporting. I don't really care if he succeeds or fails anymore, but it'd sure be great to see him get his poop together. No, I'm not holding my breath, being hopeful, or confident...but there's talent there.

Who else do they have? I'm assuming MDC is out and if Komarov replaces him who replaces Brassard??

Lamoriello said Dobson will not go to World Junior, #Isles can’t afford to lose him now. Wahlstrom only one going.

On Ho-Sang, Lamoriello said JHS reached out to Chris Lamoriello and asked to join BPT. Decision was made by Chris L. and Brent Thompson to bring Ho-Sang back.

I am the only one for sure.. but I am happy he is back in B-port. My hope is this last idiocy has finally been his rock bottom moment. He went from being the first call up in B-port to the last b/c of this idiocy. Now I want him to finally realize if he doesn't do EVERYTHING he is asked he will be done in hockey.

If he finally figures it out.. then maybe.. just maybe he can become a dynamic player for the islanders in the future. The Talent is there...
