Lou has to know we are close idk hopefully he makes a move here

The NHL has passed him by a long time ago. He doesn’t even go into work everyday.

Again, we’re talking about 2 assets instead of 5. Tell me which scouts 7 years ago thought Pelech, Mayfield or Anders Lee were going to be solid NHL Players. If you’re not talking players the level of a Dobson or a Wahlstrom, it’s difficult to tell whether any of them are going to take a regular shift.

I happen to think he’s solid at both ends of the ice, but Toffoli is just a name I threw out there- put anyone you like there in the spot. If I can get someone decent for one or two assets, I’m fine with it, especially if it’s someone I have a REALISTIC chance of signing, as opposed to the guy who’s going to be the king of the hill on July 1st, and knows it. I still think the Devils did OK here.

Seven years ago scouts thought mayfield was a third pairing dman... pelech could be a top four dman and Lee has captain material qualities. You are focusing in on the guys who have succeeded. Where is Rhett Raksani, Robin Figren, Dustin Kohn.. etc etc etc. nobody is trading Dobson in a deal.

I don’t buy the whole div rival shat. If Lou offered them a better deal Shero would take it imho.
As far as Columbus , they were gonna lose Panarin and Bob so why the (frank) not go for it while you have the pieces?

- nyisles7

Actually, it’s the reverse of that concept- it’s not what Lou offered, it’s what Shero asked for (Wahlstrom and Sorokin were the two names I read). I still think he’s going to pull something off later in the season that is going to be a better fit for this team.

Last year probably took all of them by surprise. This year, what we specifically need is plainly obvious, and even as seemingly insignificant of a move as adding a true third line center may boost this team over the top.

I’m not sweating a guy who, in true NHL fashion, was probably always going to the Western Conference- in fact, one of the sources I follow said five days ago that Arizona was the answer to that question, so they must have known something.

All three of those players were labeled “poor skaters” from their draft day until they showed up to take a regular shift. In fact, I saw both Pelech and Lee skate in their respective rookie camps, and they WERE poor skaters. A lot of players fall into that category as young men. Some make it, some don’t, as you point out. All I’m saying is labeling 21 and 22 year olds “busts” and saying they’ll never be any good is probably a little bit of an early assessment for them.

It's not about getting a rental, it is about who that rental is. Hall is off the board (which is fine with me) because I don't think he fits the mold of Trotz' system and would require a kings ransom being traded in the division. The other 3 you mention I agree are not the type of players that are going to blow anyone away with so it isn't really worth sacrificing assets for them.

This brings me to a player that probably is not available. Yet. Mike Hoffman. The Panthers are still in the mix for the playoffs so it is doubtful they would move him now. You would have to think though that Tampa, Montreal or Toronto is going to make a run and with the strength of the Metro at least as of now the 2 wild cards will not come out of the Atlantic. That could make him available. That is not to say he wouldn't want to re-sign in Florida. Nice state and weather. Favorable taxes. But at 30, he may be looking to get paid and win and it is debatable whether Florida is going to seriously challenge for a cup. At a 5.187 cap hit for the rest of the year, the Isles could bring him in and still have room for more especially if they unload a NHL player in return.

Hoffman on the Isles would be a difference maker. Last year he put up 70 points which would make him a top 3 scorer on the Isles. Although his production is down this year, you can attribute some of that to the style being played in Florida under Quenville sacrificing some offense for defense. Sound familiar? With a solid coach, new arena coming, excellent training facility the Isles very well could be a team that he would want to sign an extension with.

The question would be, do you spend a ton on a 30 year old with term that could be a liability in 3-5years or do you continue go with youth. Andrew Ladd would be a prime example of bringing in a scorer that gets injured under a long contract that hasn't produced. I think it is fair to say though Hoffman is a better player than Ladd and would be worth the risk if LL feels this team is 1 scorer away from cup contention.

Hoffman will not be available unless the Panthers fall out of the race and does not want to resign. Both are a stretch at best. If we offered more for Hall we would’ve got him. Shero should fire himself if he took a lesser offer to get him out of the conference especially with what he got which to me was a mediocre return at best. Only way the return is decent is if the Coyotes do great and then it’s worth it to them anyway.
