Moves should be made to secure the playoffs for this year and next while Dahlin is on his ELC. At some point success needs to be now instead of existing in some sort of nebulous future realm

A year and a half contract is kind of a perfect length, really

- jcragcrumple

thinking the same thing. 1 1/2 years is a long time to figure out long term replacements. It does pain me to day but 1/2 year top 6 next year bottom 6 and out the door is ok with me even at 4.6.....
figure a little more than a million to have a more rounded guy then Gus the second coming of Mike Grier

Lets Asplund play a less pivital role for a playoff team which lets him grow
Makes Sherry expendable
Makes Vessey Expensable gtfo

Palmieri fits in a number of ways then.

There's only one year where Dahlin and Cozens will both be on ELCs. I'd love to see them add that forward piece this year so that next year, you integrate Cozens and maybe Thompson and really hit the ground running

Sure, depending on what we’d have to give up for him

I'm hoping they start Cozens in the minors. He's going to be great, play it safe with him. Don't mitts it up.

The problem is cant play in Roch. I see him on the same path as Reinhart. NHL next year. It wouldn't be wise to assume that he's going to solve the 2C dilemma though

Can't go to the minors until he's 21 I think. It's either here or WHL for 2 more years. Which is insanely dumb.

He has nothing left to prove at the WHL level. The world juniors is a once in a lifetime experience and I’m excited for him to go there and out forth a good effort.

He should be a middle 6 RW for us next year though no doubt.

We need to keep the goal in mind too though

I get what you’re saying about taking advantage of guys on their ELCs,
but we aren’t a Cup Contender next year

So while guys like Palmeri are good players,
Spending assets to get a guy who won’t be here when we are real contenders takes up Cap that could potentially go to someone who could be
It’s not ideal

I agree with this, I really think they need to look into some of these rules that keep these kids progressing thru the system.

a good compromise to me would be letting a team claim outstanding player status to one player at a time or something that lets them take them out of the OHL

maybe once every 3 years or something

Could be a good compromise, they need to figure something out, cause it can hurt there growth

At some point the team needs to commit to winning instead of having one foot in and one foot out.

Do I think we should trade 2 1sts for Hall? No. But the goal this year should be to find the guy offensively for this year and next year so you can add him to the mix of Cozens, Thompson, Mittelstadt, Borgen and Pilut and hopefully really go for something next year.

Acquire that impact forward now and the benefits are enormous

It happens in every sport people get to enamored with prospects and picks. They are great till they dont produce and set you back another couple of years.

If you get a couple well established impact players the benefits far exceed trying to hit on a prospect. With those game changers now you can fill in needs instead of having big holes

Also the hes too good for fill in the blank Junior League doesnt work well either

Grigorenko was "too good"
Zach Fucale was the second coming of Ken Dryden
Dylan Strome was the best all around player since Towes
Max Domi was the perfect hard nosed player with scoring.
Remember when no matter which Sam you went with was going to be a long time NHLer
Galchenyuk and Zacha out of sarina

All these guys were goign to be franchise defining players
Imagine that pick being dealt for a bonafide top end talent.

As Teddy Nolan said, "prospects become suspects."
