Liljegren is turning into a player very different than I thought. I was figuring for him to be a smooth skating, offence-first type defender who would struggle on the defensive end.

He appears to be turning into a capable two-way defender. Maybe not being the offensive catalyst one may have expected but a pretty dependable player in his own end who rarely makes a critical gaffe.

Sandin I quite like but I'm not quite convinced of his "stud" status. I like to think of him as an LHD version of Liljegren with more offensive upside and flashier skating.

Third pairing next season for these two? Yes, please!

Pretty sure Hyman played more because his line was, way better than Matthews last night, and he plays on the PK. Generally Keefe has been playing Matthews more than Babcock did. Matthews career high ice time has been under Keefe. But his line was not good last night. Also Hyman's line was going out against McDavid which is kind of important.

wait ... did Matthews and Nylander play against the Oilers?

or was it a night out on the town in Edmonton?

how many successful zone entries??

I'd be all in on a Matthews for Josh Anderson deal. Maybe a three way with New Jersey where the Leafs get Simmonds and Schneider and Columbus gets Hall.
- AdamFrench

Everyone who has noticed Matthews regressing play is definitely suggesting Mathews should be traded AND they are suggesting that is what the trade would look like.

... or at least the people who can't (frank)ing read are putting those words in people's mouths.

I hope you didn't just notice he wasn't playing well, because that would definitely mean you think he should be traded.

They weren't great at all. Good thing Snake's line was slithering this way and that. And Kerfoot's line was good.

Liljegren is a much smoother skater and has more offensive upside. But if he turns into Stralman 2.0 - I could live with that.

As per Holl, I'm thinking he's maybe our 7th d-man... I'd hate to have him playing 2nd pair minutes (he's also UFA).

- mjones242

Holl has been playing on the 2nd pair with Muzzin for a while now. He has also been the best all-around defender since the coaching change.

well... you can't expect Tavares line to carry the team EVERY night can you?

in my mind Tavares gets a bit of a pass for a slight down year to this point because obviously he's not sleeping when they are at home in Toronto - and as a new dad he doesn't have the _alls to tell his wife that she actually needs to look after the kid so he can earn his 11M$ a year salary.

however, what's Willy and Big Slappy's excuse... granted we don't know how many kids they are looking after, or how much bar play they are getting... but come on... its Edmonton... how much bar play do you WANT to get there. I mean the extra baggage you might be taking home could be painful.

or they just don't give a _hit on some nights....

I know I know - remember the zone entries.

I can't believe Dreger isn't speculating on Holl's upcoming 5.5M$ a year contract

Yeah man, they have to be better. I think Matthews is so good probably now that we've complained he'll score goals in ten straight. Willie's been having a good year but we'll just disagree there. He can pick it up too.

There's room for improvement. I think they'll get there. Everyone has ups and downs. I much prefer this kind of fan concern, rather than in previous years where players would have a bad night and that's all they were ever gonna have cause they were not good players.

Every time Andersen gets dismissed now, I'm gonna hammer on this stat that he's the 5th fastest all time to 200 wins. So happy about that stat. That's gonna be my new thing.

In the regular season. Can’t win a Game 7, though.

oh definitely not the case that they lack talent.... just think they should be getting "game on" alarm clocks for Christmas or the merry festive season of your choice gifts...

old boomer coach yelling from the behind the bench - uh.. hmm... "wake the phack up"....

likely true... means that Dreger - if he's actually smart - might step in.... 'cause I think his career in broadcasting is trending down.
