Ya. The weirdly unique styles like Brodeur, Hasek, Thomas...I'd even add Quick to that list etc. are pretty much being phased out from a young age these days.
- AdamFrench
Yeah, it's pretty surprising Thomas was as effective as he was considering it was only 8 or so years ago. Interesting, though, I never thought of Quick in that convo, but it makes sense. Maybe to a lesser degree, but still checks out.

so Justin Holl is looking better and better.
Big RHD...that the Leafs desperately needed (cheap)

he is 2nd on the Leafs D with Muzzin at 10, 5v5 points.
But he has a lot less ice time, which puts him around the same as Rielly /60

Hope his play continues

- senstroll

He’s been great.

If he keeps it up, he’s a perfect cheap number 4 guy that the leafs can sign to 2-2.5 million for the next 3 years.

(frank) Dubas, I hate how he keeps finding these free wallets. Mikheyev, Moore, Holl.

Bring back Burke so he can (frank) up 1st round picks.

I hope my generation copes well with change, I think we will given what our current age is...but I could be yelling at clouds in 30 years. (frank) I hope not

@Zezzy: millenials will figure out a way to extend our lifespans long enough to achieve immortality in the future. Therefor Boomers will for sure become maggot food, but we’ll live on forever

Gotta love this NHL set-up Leafs will have their worst season in the past 4 years and will avoid Boston and face by far their weakest opponent.

oh yeah.
considering my expectations for him were very low..he is probably exceeding them

- senstroll

Significantly so. Not great at all, but has probably been better than Barrie. I was all for the Barrie deal, but in hindsight, the deal hasn't worked out for Toronto. Really like Kerfoot so far, good addition, but a seriously underperforming rental is a problem when he was a key piece to a deal. Leafs can't really trade him and he's not really worth even $5 million x 4 at this point.

If there really a weak opponent in the NHL anymore?

maybe the last wild card spot sometimes, when a team like NJ a few years ago gets super lucky and sneak in.

I had always sort of considered it that Hasek and Thomas had greast anticipation and a second effort or level of determination that was way more consistent and effective than their peers. They would get beat, but they never gave up on a play. Thomas was certainly not Hasek, but he was that type of scramble-in-any-way to keep the puck out of the net type of goalie, and he was overall effective at it.

I never considered other super effective guys like Brodeur or Roy or Quick to have that skill. All of the latter goalies were probably more technically sound and in theory more predictable. Because of that certainty, it, I surmise, may have taken away their ability to have that same level of second-effort that Thomas and Hasek had.

dont like to get ahead of things, but its about time the Leafs find a diamond in the Rough to help the D.

I don’t necessarily agree.

Right now it’s hard to trade him...but come late January trades are easier to make. Teams give up and are willing to take on cap.

Just because a trade is difficult doesn’t make it impossible. We heard the Leafs couldn’t deal Marleau or Z and they were traded within a month of the finals.

Yes, not everyone has the same views in the world....what’s that got to do with my question...TB won’t be any easier.

Hopefully we draw Detroit in the 1st round?

Dubas signs him now, fans get pissed at him for signing him too early.

If he signs him in the summer it’s too late.

He seems like a good bet, he came into the system as a depth AHL guy with Keefe. I could see him wanting to stay pretty bad to stay with Keefe.

Even the Rangers.

I see them as a bottom 10 team in the NHL...if they snuck in could they win a round? Yup.

In the NBA you just don’t see it.

I wouldn't say they fall in the same category as Hasek and Thomas, but I don't think what I (or Adam) were trying to make that point. I think that all of the aforementioned goalies had a very unique style that existed in a time, when goalies were on aggregate more technically sound. Not necessarily that Brodeur, Quick, etc are as acrobatic as Hasek and Thomas. Just saying they were a bit different in an era, when goalies have become more or less the same. Obviously, some are better than others, but they all play the same style.
