Honestly, if they can make the right deal, Hall not wanting to stay in NJ is a good thing for the Devils. They aren't good enough with him. Collect the future assets and build from within.

I agree, obviously as a fan I hate seeing a player like Hall go, but they are in position for yet another top 5 draft pick and Hall will be 29 when his extension would kick in.

Assuming it would be 8 years, he would be most likely declining in the second half of that extension while the Devils would need the space to extend all of these young players. Sucks it didn't work out, but it would be far worse to wind up with another Parise situation and watch our best player walk for nothing.

If it's with Arizona, who I actually follow along with my Devils it's probably going to include Soderstrom or Hayton or Oliver-Joseph plus.....as a Devil fan I would love to get Soderstrom but taking the Yotes side of me I would hate to trade him for a "rental". Now if somehow they get some insurances that if Hall likes Zona (and believe me most players like playing there and living there) he will sign there then maybe you make that trade. Not sure what Hall really wants at this stage of his career because "Top" teams can't offer the money he can get from the mid-tier teams. If it's just winning then that takes certain teams out or if it's money/a chance to win/be competitive then maybe a team like Arizona can entice him.

Buffalo is a team that could check all the boxes. They have prospects they could part with, they are finally competitive and would have the space to extend Hall after the season if he chose to stay.

regardless of where he ends up this season, there is zero chance Hall doesn’t test the open market in the summer. yes, he’s stated that he wants to win, but let’s be realistic- whether it’s for 6 or 7 or 8 years, the next contract he signs is going to be the last big one he signs. He’d be an idiot not to test the market; let the low-to-mid tier teams who have money throw gigantic offers at him that make contending teams dish out more. He can get everything he wants; term, money, and the potential for a championship before his career is over.

I wouldn't say zero chance, if Hall wants the 8th year it would have to come from the team he is traded to.

true enough. i also don’t see many teams actually wanting to lock him up for 8 years unless it’s for salary structure purposes of top loading a contract. hall already has some nasty injury history, so if it were my team he’s signing with i’d be hoping for 6 years. on an 8-year contract he’d be, what, 37 years old? no thanks on that.

Common sense would dictate they he would want to sign long term with a more established team with a winning culture. Arizona isn't exactly that..are they?

That's not what you said though.

In a league where there's a salary cap, Hall doesn't really need to test the market to know what he'll get. He's not 22 so he's not getting Mitch Marner money, and so if someone is going to offer him anywhere close to that it makes sense to sign a contract today. The fact that they held him out and a trade still hasn't happened suggest teams are at least trying to sign him before making a big payment.

I wouldn't be surprised if he signs somewhere. Then again, it's no secret he wants didn't want to leave Edmonton and I can see that being a possibility.

Total luck. It’s been like 1.5 seasons, you would think the luck wears off after a while

I think Barzal had a strong game up until that stupid play late in the third. Just another great, team game. What are we 2nd or 3rd in the league points wise? Eberle and Lee starting to play like they should at the right time. All good.

Beau was great as usual. I’m glad he wasn’t traded last year. He’s really picked it up this year. Nice overtime goal! LGI!

I guess you don't follow them that closely.

POJ was traded to the Pens for Kessel.

Yes you are right, I really follow the big club, I'm not much into the minors of hockey...when that trade went down I remember Galchenyuk going, I forgot prospects were involved
