They can put out a good 4th line. The backup issue will be rectified.
For the first time ever, the Leafs have elite, unicorn level talent they drafted and the worries are stuff like the backup. And you want to fire the guy who was the arcitect of that? Wild. - Zezel

He’s pretty awesome though - Garnie
He is. I didn't overly want to draft him because I like watching the guys I draft and Eichel is hideous, but I figured I'd rather win the league, so I can accept having to see his ugly as sin face when I watch him play. |

Arberg, petan and spezza???
3 non-nhl players. And kerfoot looks like one too since he got blown up by carter
There are reasons why we suck. - Tumbleweed
So you want to fire Shanny because of the 4th line...well, as takes go it's different, I'll give it that! |

any line that has Petan on it... isn't a good line... whether its 4th or 5th(practice line).... it would seem that that reclamation project is now reaching fizzle out stage....
put him on waivers and insert another project...

I get what you are saying... but I'd rather see them spend a little less on "floatie", inconsistent scorers and a bit more on those non-sexy kind of defenseman... then the ECHL level back-up wouldn't matter as much.
I absolutely disagree with firing Dubas and Shanahan. Make Dubas stay and fix up the "minor tuning" that has to be done. Dubas was quoted as saying "we'll draft talent and trade for what we need".... so ... its about time to stop talking about philosophy, approach, cool-aid and its various flavours...
and go trade some of the talent you have accumulated for some of those intangibles... for guys you hate... like Hyman....
you know non-talented guys like Hyman.. funny/odd how the PK suddenly improved when he returned from injury.... but I guess that was Keefe, 'cause he's on the ice killing the penalities.
and before one of you dorks goes off with "ok boomer" and bs bs bs bs ... cool aid infused whatever...
ask yourself a simple question - who's more valuable to the team Hyman at 2.5M or Nylander at 6.9M... don't choke , actually think.
you KNOW what the answer is.
then ask yourself... who's more valuable to the team Barrie at 2.5 for another 40 games or Muzzin at 4M.... again think, breathe before answering to yourself what you know to be true.
I really hope Barrie completely turns around his season and has a great season from this point forward... including the time after the TDL when Dubas moves him for a more reliable stay at home guy.
yes... exactly.
Boomer out

What’s is Hyman getting in 1.5 years for his contract?

I was so (frank)ing glad that San Jose didn't make it to the Cup Finals last season, because it really seemed like the fix was in for them.
Refs won them the two series they won last Spring. It was so insane. - GreatGigInTheSky
Not to mention the OT hand pass against the Blues.
I’m a Bruins fan, though. I can get behind an ‘ol fix or two |

well now... I was waiting for this wonderful little dodge... which doesn't change the question about who's more valuable AT ALL.
Hyman is such a replaceable commodity that the Leafs should probably just let him walk into free agency - at least that is what some of the donkeys on here would suggest.
to answer your question truthfully FROM MY PERSPECTIVE, I would suspect he's a 3.5 - 4.0 / year player on the 3-4 year contract.
vastly more valuable at 4M a year than Nylander at 6.9... plays in all situations - and actually shows up for most games - truly a refreshing characteristic ...
so now... answer the initial question (go on.. allow yourself to embrace the dark side)

Yes, but in this case it's a little nod to Canada as it was filmed in multiple locations in central Alberta, primarily Drumheller. |

Trade him for a 3rd - Aaron_85
I'm guessing Dubas would throw a party if someone offered him a 5th for Petan at this point... Dubas keeps trying to get him minutes....
with which Petan does nothing except wear out his hockey pants - and by that I mean the ass section.
I'm seriously thinking of taking some old Foster Hewitt voice snippets and creating some over dubs for specific Leafs...
in the old days you had Kaberle - "Shoot"...
in Petan's case... "Petan has the puck - and he's knocked off it again"
in Nylander's case... "Slick Willy with a beautiful flowing zone entry, followed by a button hook and turnover"

A Dodge?
He has two years left and is heading into UFA.
Nylander is signed for another 5 years.
It a a fact, and you are spewing poop trying to avoid it.
Nylander at 5 years x 7 over Hyman at 2x2.5.
He will get a cohoe contact. |

is that per game or per period?
and does it include (this is rhetorical of course) ignore Chara cross-checks? |

It really is basic math. You can't expect to have good depth when there simply isn't enough money. They are and will remain a top heavy team with no depth. So moving Petan is fine, but he will be replaced by another plug. The only way this situation improves is if a few depth guys no one wants to pay more than league minimum break out out of nowhere, help the team for a season, and then leave to be replaced by more plugs with the hop those plugs break out. The floating being done by certain well paid players notwithstanding.
Side note: Holl be looking good. |

The team was looking good when there was a deep management team in place. Blame and credit went to a group.
Now it's all on one guy.

and................ you still didn't answer the question
or couldn't.
its okay... go change the diaper, take a deep breath, grab a swig of Dubas Coolaid, no doubt infused with cranberry from central ontario....
its okay to admit that a player "like Hyman" is more valuable to his team that undeniable beauty that is William "I'm going to Dominate" Nylander.
although, there no doubt will be a whole generation of teenage boys and girls who will burst into tears when Nylander's trade is announced... just imagine the horror.

Pretty sure he already cleared waivers. Honestly I think they just hope to get anything for him or someone picks him up on waivers. Hes wasting a roster spot. |
