Dean Lombardi won cups yes, but what a mess he made. They have so many long-term deals on old, slow players. It's ridiculous.
- RogerRoeper

You don't get it.

They (frank)ed up hanging on to an old core.

But 8 out of 8 of the last cup winners had 2-3 poopty deals on their books (overpaid or poop long-term). 7 out 8 (exception, st. louis) had bad long-term deals.

Dufus is trying to re-create the wheel. But the outline for cup winners is there. Sign your rfa's to reasonable or good value deals.

Then take long-term risks and go balls out by overpaying ufas to fill gaps.

Dufus doesn't have the balls to take the risks needed to win a cup. Nor does he have the balls to stand up to his key rfa players to get them signed to reasonable / good value deals.

Whatever you think of his strategy, he has taken risks imo. Otherwise his strategy wouldn't be considered experimental.

The problem is, some people call them bad contracts but the player can still play

Oh my gerd look at his analytics doesn’t mean (frank) all in reality...look at the teams that won a couple rounds. All have dinosaurs that supposedly shouldn’t be in the NHL, but yet there they are with cup rings and division championships. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ever since Dubas took over we've been a .500 team. His appointment correlates with the downturn in the direction we've been heading.

The fanbase deserves better. At the very least, it deserves a GM that lives/works in today's NHL, not whatever "new NHL" or parallel NHL he believes in

Oh they’ll be fine, lots of time.

Can still make a trade if needed...you’ll be bowing your head in shame when we win the 1st round

Not sure if you can really say that immediately after he was appointed the record was all stemming from his authorship. Takes time to really judge the effects of one vision over another. And there's the Babcock factor over the last year. Too soon to judge Dubas imo.

We deserve better in truth. Remember being a Leafs fan a couple of years ago? Remember the upward trajectory? The cap space to do what we wish with? Fun times.

We can still make trades for sure. However, do you trust Dubas making those trades? We have 1 dman signed for next year. Expect 5 more "transition" dmen to be added to the roster. Wonder if we'll bother with a back up next season?

Win a round?

Cap space gets used up when you have elite players. And as you say, there'll be cap space freed up next season. I don't expect all the problems to remain and nothing to change in a positive direction. The team has weaknesses that change like any other.

How many years should we waste before we can judge Dubas? How many years left of Matthews' contract before we can move on from Dubas?

It's always too soon to judge people with the Leafs. We have to waste years and years before moving on.

Kyle's first year = downturn in points
Kyle's second year = downturn in points (pace wise)

Anymore (frank)ing downturn in points and we just won't be making the playoffs. (frank) that. Us fans deserve better. Don't settle for the poope you're witnessing.

Very slight downturn in points last year. There have been some noticeable changes and improvements since the coaching change, which was a major and rather bold change considering Babcock's stature, and that was Dubas' call. I see no reason to make an emotional move now, that's Leaf fanny.

It's not an emotional move. It's a move. Get a GM that lives in today's NHL.

You don't get a (frank)ing plumber who plumbs how he believes plumbing should be in future to plumb you (frank)ing plumbing.

Marner, Tavares, Andersen are elite, no question. Rielly is a number one D. Unless you think 47 goals and 90+ points from Tavares and MM aren't elite, which would be a fringe take.

K. Let's (frank) up for a few more years first and then fire him. Let the new GM come just in time for Matthews' new contract.

Rinse and repeat

How were LAs deals reasonable? And what will happen with those RFAs who signed 2-3 year deals in a couple of years? Suely you don't think Laine is going to sign that deal again?

Yeah, I'd wait and see how things play out under the new coaching style, which is quite different. Makes no sense to make a GM change right now.

I'm pretty sure if Marner got 94 points son Florida at age 21 last season you'd think he was elite.
