Pretty sad stuff about Tim Thomas.

I do miss Bulldogs games! AHL though. Were always fun especially with the Baby Leafs in for a game. Never knew if there was going to be more fights in the stands or on the ice! |

Exactly. Media drives a lot of it and the fanbase is rather vocal and large, but also quite toxic at times. Only place that eats its own and far worse is Montreal... but Leafs have always had bad defence, that has never changed. We've always utterly outright relied on our goalies to bail us out all the time, Palmeteer, Bester, Wregget, Furh, Cujo, Belfour... etc etc.
Lets face it this is the best this franchise has been and it has taken a few years to get to this point. It wasn't supposed to be that fast a turn around. We still aren't done yet. It will come but holy crap people want it NOW.
Think we can all be guilty of being impatient some. That said I think many cant temper expectations and see how it will go long term. I mean think of Edmonton those great cup teams... yet they had a few years of getting utterly schooled despite all that talent by the other teams before they rose up to a dynasty. - Roadrunner75
It sucks not seeing them win now as we all wished but even the penguins weren't that great after 2009. People were unsure if they would ever win again in like 2011, 2012, 2013, etc.

You can lose some of the whiplash effect with a stronger neck, so on a hit that might not outright give you a major concussion, that whip of the neck can cause it to be major adding to the effect. It could be the difference between a major and minor concussion, but not going to necessarily outright stop you from having one I think is what he was getting at. So a minor hit, MIGHT avoid a minor concussion here or there even. Not all the time and depends on the impact and hit taken really but... - Roadrunner75
This.
There really isn’t much you can do to protect yourself from a moderate concussion. Studies are showing helmets don’t even protect you from a concussion...they protect you from a serious brain injury but a sudden movement from contact won’t change with a helmet on.
A family member of mine has gone through a serious case of PCS the past two years. I’ve learned a lot about it with all the different specialists.
It’s something we need to be more educated on.
I saw a Canuck fan call Ferland a wussy for missing games when the GM said he doesn’t have a concussion but needs to see a specialist to further investigate re occurring symptoms. It’s highly probable it’s PCS.
Look at Tim Thomas, the guy has obviously had a rough go the past while.

lol what? The pens were contenders for like a decade (and still going). Sure, they had a lot of injuries and didn't always make it to the finals, but they were pretty consistently relevant. The leafs probably have to wait a few years before they can expect to be that sort of team; a team that makes the playoffs every year and has the potential to win a cup |

Oh we also need to remember too we have exceeded where we thought we were going to be, we were running before walking totally there. And I think that also is telling because means we have the talent to succeed. Overall I think we will struggle some this year but likely get things together more next. Dubas is putting his stamp on the team but also it isnt a complete done work here by any stretch of the imagination too. - Roadrunner75

Best its been? This soft team cannot get out of the 1st round. There have been better teams. These kids havent proven anything yet |

Why are you homers comparing this pathetic Leafs team to the Penguins and Tampa? These teams have won the cup recently, and please, the Leafs can’t carry the Pens water-bottles when you look at recent history.
Stop trying to justify this underperforming mess that we are seeing...
Hall not dressed, getting traded... Dubas, perhaps its time to do this with a few of our ‘players’... |

Or we can wait to see how the Leafs play under a coach who believes in Dubas's vision before blowing it all up? |

Well, Tampa's win wasn't all that recent, although the current team has made the finals. They have underachieved a lot. Neither the Leafs or Tampa is Pittsburgh. |
