Hoffman was very attractive 3 - 4 years ago...he produced well, was 26sh, at the start of a contract that aged well. He is not attractive now as a 30 year old pending UFA who will want 5, 6, 7 years at $7.0sh.
He would be attractive to say Tampa as their window begins to close.
Move along, let another GM ma,e that move.

Now Trocheck...that would be different.

I get that you'd want a lot, a top 10 pick, a quality Dman prospect who is likely NHL ready now, and a 1st or 2nd round pick is too much. A cost that high makes it a go for it now move, and that isn't the Sabres.
- kingcong39

I don't really believe the rumors (really only hear Eklund saying it, but idk) about them moving Hoff. While the FL organization is very tight lipped, and there's not much media coverage, let alone scrutiny, I haven't heard a whisper of any off ice issues that may make them want him gone. They made a lot of moves in order to take the "next step", using Hoff as an own rental is something I think they're willing to do. Unless they totally flame out from here on, I think it'll take a crazy (stupid) offer to get him.

Kevin Hayes got a 1st and a prospect but he plays center. I feel like a pair of 2nds gets Hoffman if they're selling.
- jcragcrumple

Hayes was also 26.
4 years is rather big.
Hoffman is not the way to go...
Good thought, but he isn't the right answer.

And again like I said it would depend on an extension. Not that I don't want younger players but all I see on here is we need a 2c or RW and we do. As long as it doesn't mortgage the future, why not go for it now. We have a decent team where 1 or 2 players could make the difference for now and a few years until some of are prospects are ready to go.

An interesting question I have no answer on is how many teams ride out their pending UFA's that have trade value. The Sabres did it last year with Skinner, but they were always planning on extending him. Are the Panthers going to extend Hoffman?

Pot stirrer here:

Reinhart, Eichel and ROR had dinner together at Hutch's Restaurant on Monday, Josh Allen was there separately and picked up the tab.

I thought Eichel and ROR disliked, hated, didn't get along whatever and that was a reason he was traded?

Throw that theory out methinks.

It wasn't just a hockey trade that's for GD sure

We don't have a cheap owner who worries about paying lump salary or bonuses for good players.

Did ROR ask for a trade? Maybe we'll have to wait for his memoir to know.

If are owner wasn't worried about bonuses then they could have waited until his bonus was paid and probably would have gotten a better haul for ROR, just my opinion.

Idk, I think they'd like to, but him and Dadonov both need new deals. If they can only keep one under the cap, I think they'd first keep Dadonov and give Owen Tippett the chance to take Hoff's spot.

Define "mortgage the future". That is a key distinction here.
A 4th and conditional 7th is different than Borgen, Mitts and a high pick.

If you were concerned about Skinner's contract not aging well, and Pegulaville/Flaco/ Swedish Jesus was postering that ROR's $7.5m contract at age 26 wouldn't age well at age 28 (now)...
I hate to see what you guys will say for a $7.0m (+) contract at age 31!!!

I like that you want to upgrade RW.
IMO, I would be willing to pay alot more for a player who fits our SC window...not just gets us to the playoffs this year.

2C is different to me, in that an older vet at that position would be suplanted by Cozens in 2 years or so.

I agree. I dont think Hoffman gets a haul. The panthers didn't pay a lot for him. They should just keep him as an own rental

That was always a joke between Eichel and ROR. Eichel said they played it up on celebrations to (frank) with people. ROR wanted out and got out. The deal sucked. End of story

I think Jack and Sam roofied ROR.

Note to players: have dinner with every former player coming through Buffalo.

I thought it originally came from Paul Hamilton and it was mentioned many, many times on here as being true. I never took it one way or the other since I had no idea.

There was the captain theory that ROR wanted to be captain and was pissed that Jack got it and was repeated many times which overlapped with they didn't like each other theory. (Jealousy)

I didn't really see that ROR wanted to be traded mentioned all that often but it makes sense since with comments coming from former players with how miserable it was here.

Never said Borgen, Mitts and a high pick, 1 or the other and a pick. And again depends on the extension. And never once did I complain about what Skinner signed for, do I think he is producing for what he is paid to do, NO, not right now.

I think he did want to be captain. Hell, he almost certainly would have taken the helm from Gio had he not crashed into the timmy ho's before he ever played a game for us.

He and Eichel got along. I think ROR got sick of playing with Scott Wilson and losing and he wanted out. We got a poop deal and he's done well.

Anecdotally, my sister saw him at a concert in Buffalo a few days after he was traded. He said he had a lot of faith in Eichel, he liked it here, and he wished the city well. I think it was a band of horses concert

Well, with the Bogo asking for a trade, Beuleiu however you spell his name asking for a trade and perhaps ROR wanting out, Risto wanting out, but now seems fine, we might lead the league in trade requests. Is there anyone I missed?
