As a pens fan I’m happy for the points. As an nhl fan it sucks that the league has to manufacture wins to appease non hockey people. Speaking of non hockey people I bet Doughtys comments made a few of you uncomfortable. Keep it Canadian. - Grinder47

Thought experiment: Let's say Murray was never on the Pens but all of his career stats, achievements, and current level of play are exactly the same. The team who has Murray has let it known that he is available via trade. Do you think the Pens should actively pursue him (as a "veteran" backup to Jarry or a 1A if Jarry falters)? If so, how much are you willing to give up for him? Keep in mind salary cap, RFA status, expansion draft, etc. In other words, there is a decent chance that Murray will be a ~3-month rental. |

They aren't gonna trade Murray this season unless it's a super good lopsided deal, so basically not happening. Think about it, the pens have always had a solid backup behind Fleury with Conklin, Johnson, Zatkoff, Vokoun etc.. yea I know we have Desmith but if one goes down to injury were still in good shape. Remember Zatkoff had to start the playoffs because both Fleury and Murray were out. Honestly would rather have the goalie depth. Rutherford will pull off a move for Galch and hopefully it works out. Listen were talking about Galchenyuk being our weakest link at the forward position were in good shape here. LD is what we should Target. |

I think fighting is a stupid waste of time 9+ times out of 10. Especially "nowadays" when the refs jump in as early as possible. More than half the time it's in response to a perfectly clean play, which annoys the hell out of me. Often the culprit isn't even one of the two fighters, FFS!
Personally, I think it's more effective to return a cheap shot with a cheap shot. |

I was never a huge fan of enforcers after the age of like 15. But when I was a little kid I was all about it. I remember Bob Boughner was doing a stint with the pens and it was a chippy game. I ran upstairs to the bathroom and Boughner lined up vs whichever other teams tough guy and my dad yelled “you better get down here!”. Like what the (frank)s the point of having kids now days with the nhl in shambles the way it is. Am I suppose to share a memorable Simon zone entry with my Son or Daughter? |

Brouwer vs Dermott. Another example of new NHL players not realizing the older guys used to have to fight. |

Gotcha, I wouldn't give up anything if Murray was available we'd probably still have Fleury if the scenario you are making is we never had Murray. Lol sorry I know I'm poopting on your thoughts but honestly if Murray never came about we probably still have Fleury. Now just to appease, I wouldn't give up any good part of this team for extra veteran back up because we would have Jarry and Desmith. |

Hahahah
Are the fights really that memorable?....I'm impartial to fighting...don't really care if it's there and if it's not it's not. Sometime you see a good tilt, and it's remembered, but most of the time it's clutching and grabbing then falling to the ice. Then considering how alot of these guys are extremely fd in the head later in life, I'm fine without not seeing 10 second waltzes on ice between two men...but will enjoy a scrap if its an actual good one. The good ones were always few and far between, no matter how many fighting majors there were in a season. Obviously even rarer these days. |

Brouwer vs Dermott. Another example of new NHL players not realizing the older guys used to have to fight. - Grinder47
Ehhh...I watched that. Brouwer is such an ass. He chopped at the back of Dermott's knees just to get a response because they were down. So Dermott either retaliates and gets a penalty or he fights Brouwer, in which case he'll get beat up and it's a bad trade for the Leafs. Yeah, sure, crafty "veteran move" by Brouwer, if you want to call it that.
If I'm Dermott, I either tell my goon or I wait until the end of the game and take a two-handed baseball swing to the back of Brouwer's knees (or some other form of cheap shot that exceeds the original cheap shot). Maybe an "accidentally-on-purpose" slewfoot or some such. But that's just me.
Best case scenario is the refs do their job and call the original infraction that occurs right in front of them in plain sight. |

Even just draft picks / prospects?
But this is sort of the point. I don't think he would be a commodity that Pens fans would be saying, "Oh, we should go get this guy." But woe is the Pens fan to suggest trading him right now.
I think about this when I have a bunch of extra stuff lying around. Lets say an extra pair of bincoulars that I know I can sell for $100. Should I keep them or should I sell them? Then I ask myself, would I go out and buy them for $100? Hell no. Ok, then I'm selling them!
I know it apples to oranges and my example is very simplistic, but it is interesting to reverse the scenario and see what your logic and decision-making process is.
As for Murray, I completely see the side of "keep him until the end of the season" crowd. I'm torn but probably lean toward exploring a trade if we can get a big upgrade to our defense or forward group. It's a gamble for sure, though. But so is keeping him for 3 months and hoping his game turns around and the market might change for the worse by the offseason and we might miss out on a player to put us over the top. |

Anyone read the Kovlacuk story? As of tomorrow, he gets a roster bonus from the Kings and then they can outright release him... They were trying to link him to Pittsburgh because of his friendship with Malkin... I thought he was a super slow skater now and don't see the fit... |

If Kovalchuk's contract gets terminated would the pens be interested? I would be(for the right price) just to help out the PP especially on that left side and that one timer. Our ES is good our PK is good. Pens need the help on the PP and I think he can help. That's about what hes best at now in his career(PP specialist)I would imagine. |

Hahaha I just read it to and posted right below you. Idk I would give it a try his hockey smarts are still there and so is that shot. If End of the road Billy Guerin worked with Sid there's definitely a chance it could work. |

He's a right shot and can play RW. Don't know if Sully will go for his defensive game.
Was he the guy way back when who was giving Crosby the business when Crosby was a rookie? |

The only problem I see is that the Pens have a plethora of bottom 6 players and Kovy would just be another... But he would certainly better the PP as putrid as it has been. |

Do you know where he plays on the PP? I think Kovy is a little far-fetched at this point. |
