I don't care about trophies.

He is right there with him for goals in his 1st 4 seasons in a league where we are seeing much less goal scoring.

Fact. We ate not seeing less goal scoring.

Fact. Powerplays matter.

Fact. Art ross goes to the player with the most points relative to everyone else. Goal scoring rates are irrelevant.

If Dubas signed that Hayes deal he'd be the laughingstock of the NHL.

Dubas wouldn't have gotten him so cheap, and for not as long either

we would only be at 8 because we need to cut down to a 21 player roster.

arizona is a budget team. we shouldn't compare to them in anyway. but we are paying for part of kessel for them.

calgary will go down from 8 when players get healthy. while still maintain a 23 man roster.

- Tumbleweed

Arizona is not a budget team this year. They are legit at the cap.

What stand out is there was a lot more PP 2005-2008
and the goalies sv .901 - .913 in the rookie years of AO/AM

C'mon. Would you truly want Nylander over Coyle??? Really????
- hawk35

Uh, yes...

So, with the make-up of this Leaf team. Most of you Leaf fans would rather a 7 million Nylander who plays wing, is soft as Charmin, and is no better than the 4th or 5th best winger on your team...over a 6 foot 3, 220 pound super 2nd/3rd line center with great grit and compete, will crash the net and do all the things 11 of your 12 forwards (Hyman excepted) won't do???

Just because Nylander can put up more points and might have better fancy stats? Great then, cuz that is Dumas thinking all over. And you shouldn't have one complaint about this Leaf team at all. Because the play you are getting is directly proportional to the make-up of this roster. Shouldn't be a complaint here. You can lead in fancy stats, and miss playoffs or bounce in round one. And rinse and repeat for next year.

Why do most of the Nylander lovers post and complain, but then have Nylander valued like he is Draisitl or Pastrnak. Coyle is EXACTLY the TYPE of player Leafs need, Nylander is quite dispensible. But, carry-on. Seems things are working out just great.

(And I watch a lot of Leafs, like the Leafs...am not trolling, just do not like the roster construction Dumas has created...way too much of the same thing...)

(I will await the inevidible "Look how bad your Hawks are....and I know, believe me...lol. Or the "Here are the stats" guys..and the "your a troll" retorts).

Really though, don't most of you think losing Nyalnder and getting some "compete" in your lineup wouldn't improve your overall play...hmm...i guess not. Difference of opinion I guess. Let's see how it rolls...

Ovechkins first year he got 65 goals.

We saw a 3.10 GFPG and a .901 SV percentage.

2 seasons later he scored 15 goals less with a 2.78 GFPG and a .909 SV%.

hmmmm, I wonder why we saw such a huge drop in Ovis goal scoring

I can only imagine what they would say if Dubas signed a player who scored 35 points in back to back season to a 5.25 deal

I can only imagine

There's this strange thing going on where suddebly the Leafs habve no depth because of the cap. I had a Leaf fan tell me we miss Bozak and JVR. They make 12.5 per. LOL. What is the reaction right now if JVR makes 7.5 per at 31 years old?

Jason Spezza is very good depth signing.

Regarding Kapanen

I completely understand wanting to keep Kap over Johnnson...Kap has been impressive this season.

So if we have to throw one player out of an airplane we are choosing Johnnson.....However the rumors suggest that the whole league wants Kapanen. So if the Leafs wanted to upgrade the D position its going to be a little easier using a piece that the market covets....

Im not suggesting trading him but I'd listen for sure.

That's the key word in this sentence for me.

I don't think he's worth the contract, but it's always, always points with our fan base, and (seemingly), this organization too.

I remember 4 years ago people were calling him lazy and one dimensional. Has he changed? I'd say so, at least a little bit.

these are the same stats I posted earlier. grasping at straws if you looking at save percentage when goal socring for the 2-bolded 3 year periods are essentially the same.

and maybe washington got more pp's cause ovechkin drew them. how often does matthews draw penalties?

but drawing penalties isn't important.

I agree its only points
people will say Nylander has great underlying data. ignore point

and they will come back with, but he only scored 27 points

really it goes both ways. But players get paid mostly based on points.

yes.

the more likely scenario is matthews is on par with potentially the greatest goal scorer the league has ever seen. despite having goal totals nowhere near his.

I think if the goals per game is equal but one season has a lot more PPs...well the season that scored more EV was the better season and tougher to score.

just my opinion

He doesn't like when you use logic to debunk stats.

"Sign David Clarkson. He scored 30 goals last season."

"Should we look into the stats at all?"

"Nah, just sign him."
