Maybe he should had it, pretty good location on almost every goal...and we just let them walk into those areas all the time, we don’t seem to get those chances often, when we did we scored...need more though. We barely deserved the Nucks win...not going to win many games allowing NHL guys time and space in front of our net, regardless of the tender. - Garnie
the chances were pretty even overall.
Flames have been playing well since Firin the coach. Leafs got a lot of decent chances also that just didnt go in.
Like someone mentioned, win against EDM (easy win 8-1 Leafs) and they are 3-1 on the trip

Stop saying easy win...geez.
Calgary won the expected goals stat which translated into a real goals win
I find last night we let the puck rip lots just from weak areas, and we’re so horny for offense we easily break down and allow way too many easy chances the other way.
But....I still BeLeaf |

I absolutely agree. It's why I believe that this is a work in progress. There is no way that Keefe wants this approach.
I believe that the style of play the Leafs are trying to employ comes with a lot of personal responsibility. You apply a 5 man rotational system in the offensive zone. If you are currently in a defensive position (on the points), you have the same responsibility as any other D-man - watch your six, and don't let someone behind you. The centre plays high in the zone so that he can act as both a pass option, and also as the third man back in a defensive posture.
In terms of defensive play, the 5 man unit should be collapsing back into the defensive zone, and I believe - but I'm still not clear - that the idea is to actually block out the home plate area in front of the net with 3 guys, and have 2 other rotational guys forcing the puck carrier. If the puck moves high or to the far side, they should collapse back to the middle and 2 other guys move on the new puck carrier. I believe the Leafs are committed to allowing the point man to have the puck, so they seem to put one guy on the low danger point while collapsing to the middle.
Where they are failing is currently in transition from the offensive zone to the defensive zone. They aren't fulfilling their roles yet - like goal one last night, Nylander took the centre lane when he should have had the right lane. Goal 3 was an errant pass - those are tough turnovers when everyone is moving up ice and you throw it away at centre.
Goals 2 & 4 looked to be more zone-based - where they had created too much open room in the middle of the ice and gotten spread out which gave the Flames time and space to get off good shots. |

We looked better the 1st couple games, 5 guys hovered around the net. Hopefully they get it going, you can’t turn pucks over in certain spots...I know it drives creative players crazy but thats the way it goes...sometimes you just need to get it deep and go get it...even if your Austin Matthews or Nylander - Tavares etc. |

The in zone defensive coverage has been absolutely poop for the Leafs since 2004. |

And...no 4-6 or 5-5 set. That sounds nasty when you lay it out like that. An uphill battle for sure. Especially with so many teams in the same hunt, and the Metro teams doing so much better. Best bet for Leafs is the 2 or 3 spot in the Atlantic. 3rd in Atlantic MIGHT be lower than the 2nd WC.... - hawk35
Well. We'll see how it goes.
There's a lot of talent. As many feel, there doesn't seem to be a consistent will to win from all of the players.
Hopefully they find that will and buy-in before it's too late to do something about it. Because to reach 98 points, they need to play .650 hockey the rest of the way, which would make them the 4th best team in the league. That's going to be hard with no backup goalie. |

Holy (frank) guys.
They beat the blues and Canucks and lost to the Flames.
I think 95% of you guys were saying you hope the Leafs go at least 2-2 on this stretch.
Well they are 2-1 and if they win Saturday they are 3-1 which is a very successful road trip.
Stop overreacting to losses like the media does, it’s their job but you guys are better than that. |

It's getting ridiculous the overreaction.
