Why does it seem like Leaf fans always throw flack at Flyers fans???

Why can't our fanbases unite in our disdain for Boston?

What is he supposed to do with it? It comes out in front to a scrum of 5 players with 2 Avalanche players on top of him and he can only get to it with 1 hand, as he never controlled the puck. It's not like he had a chance to settle it and elevate the puck or play it off the boards, all he could was poke it away from the guy who's 6 feet from the goal.
- jmatchett383

Before that. Off the face-off. He could have taken two more strides and had a better clearing attempt. AV player pressured him and he threw the puck around the boards. It looked like he had a little more time.

Missing Patrick, Koneckny, Lindblom, Raffl, And Myers. On the road against the team that took over the western conference points lead with the win.

That loss was almost guaranteed.

Let’s get healthy and get through this road trip.

just as an fyi as well, the *depleted* flyers - missing their top two scorers - were “lucky” enough to draw an avalanche team playing at (basically) full health at forward position for the first time since early october.

avs lost rantanen and landeskog for 16 games a piece, they had kadri out for 3 in a row (and a couple scattered ones before that); at one point we went a stretch with BOTH goalies hurt at the same time- having to ice 2x AHLers. huge pieces have been in and out all year, last night Erik Johnson and rookie of the year Cale Makar were out. injuries have decimated a poop ton of teams this year, but i digress...

gotta say, after the first it looked like the game might get out of hand for the flyguys, but i was super impressed with how badly you guys took it to us for basically the entire 2nd period. avs were lucky af they didn’t score to make it 1-1. this was the first time i’ve seen the flyers in action this season and they impressed. hope you crush minny and winnipeg! best of luck going forward— hope you guys get healthy soon!

What are you thoughts on your goaltending and team defense for the Aves?

Just saw flyers 3 period vs AVS. Flyers barely had a shot last 3 minutes with a extra man. JVR just stood in front of the goalie like a lifeless doll.

Av's super fun team to watch. I think they are the favorite in the West to make it to the Cup finals.

Yea! AVS Flyers in the SC final. But I doubt some of the overpaid guys on the fly, will produce enough to get there.

I don't think any Flyers fans expect them to get to the Cup finals. If they get to the playoffs with a healthy lineup, I don't see why they can't be a handful for anyone. Obviously Washington and Boston are the two best teams.

On this day in 1998, the Flyers acquired Daymond Langkow and Mikael Renberg from the Lightning in exchange for Chris Gratton and Mike Sillinger.

Great deal!

Honestly, there’s not much about this team not to like and be confident in. Grubauer was absolutely lights out in the playoffs last year- huge reason why we went as deep as we did. He basically stole the starting job from Holtby the season prior (til the Caps decided to switch things up after going down 2 games to none against the Blue Jackets; Holtby started game 3 and the team never looked back- we all know how it turned out).

The backup situation was definitely a question mark coming into this season as Francouz was only brought in from the Czech national team last year and played the entire season on our AHL affiliate (i believe he played a few random games throughout the year with the avs, but it was during their awful 2-month slump). he ended up with really great numbers in the AHL, and tied for fifth best GAA in the league. still, success in one doesn’t equate to success in the bigs necessarily so nobody knew what to expect.

that said, you guys all got to witness how freakin’ good he is last night. thus far the only game he looked shaky in was against Calgary (previous game before we played the Flyers). but tbh the entire team looked kinda “meh” and they still ended up getting a point (thanks entirely to Mackinnon getting uber pissed and single handedly being in on the two goals to make it 4-4).

Grubauer has been hurt a few times this year and the avalanche front office has a really annoying policy of vagueness about injuries so nobody really knows exactly what was up with him. that said, he doesn’t have any long injury history and the time he did miss wasn’t super extended (announced today he’ll be back in the lineup against the devils tomorrow). i’m 100% confident in our goalie situation- each goalie has great numbers and plays lights out on most nights.

insofar as defense, it’s just astounding to me how the team went from “defense is our biggest glaring issue” 3-4 years ago to having it as a point of immense strength in such a short time. ryan graves has emerged as a true top-4 guy and only getting better every game, Ian Cole continues to play a ridiculously effective shutdown game (he was by far the best defender for us in the playoffs last year- elevating his game to a level i didn’t know he was capable of) and while i don’t foresee him with the avs beyond his current contract, he brings a calming influence, veteran leadership, and essential playoff experience to a very young team - one of the youngest in the league, and nobody can discount the fact he has multiple cup championships under his belt.

girard signed longterm at an amazing price in the offseason- LONG before he was on an expiring deal. he’s only 21 but he’s freaking great and will only get better & better. his contract looks good now but in a few years the league will look at it as the type of ridiculous steal that mackinnon’s current $6mil is.

it’s unfortunate (relatively speaking, anyway, as with him in the lineup the score might’ve been more wide open, lol) you guys didn’t get to witness Makar last night. this kid is the REAL DEAL. his hands, his speed, his vision, every single thing he touches turns to gold. you’d never think this is his first time playing in the league. mark my words, he will be a winner of the norris multiple times in his career.

in erik johnson’s absence (he’s pretty much considered our top shutdown guy), zadorov has emerged as a potential top-2 guy as well. he has a bit of a tendency to go hot & cold, and my main issue was with the dumb/selfish penalties he took a lot. however, both of those things have totally changed since he took on a bigger role after EJ got hurt. the sample size is honestly a bit too small right now, but if his current play continues i say we need to resign him for sure. hell, even the other incarnation of Z (the one taking the occasional dumb penalty & kinda streaky with his play in general) would be at least a middle-to-bottom pairing guy on most other teams.

erik johnson imo is paid a bit too much for what he brings; too injury prone but when he’s not hurt he is still very valuable, and has been with the team thru thick & thin, a true team player. so you can’t dislike the guy even if you dislike the money. he does have a NMC & list of 19 teams he can be traded to. we’ll see what happens there in the future. someone is going to be the oddman out when seattle’s expansion draft happens; if the avs can somehow find a way to make it EJ, for me that’d be the easiest pill to swallow.

and this is not to mention the guys in the pipes like Byram (fourth overall pick from last year- thanks ottawa!), rosen - who played great last night - and several others. so, yah, i’d say this avs team is SET for a long time to come. ample cap space, mostly great contracts in place, players who want to and love to play here (there was an article recently about mackinnon and his insanely team friendly contract that isn’t up for years- he is quoted as saying next time around he’s going to take another team friendly deal because he wants to help the team win!). the rebuild took a long, long time. longer than any of us would have wanted. but our window is wide open- expect to see the avs at or near the top of the west for the next 6+ years at least.

If you study the standings, you see that the flyers can not afford a long losing streak.
