Bill is being a little overly kind on the 2nd goal. Hayes hits our own blue line coming back a full 3 strides before Rantanen... and literally doesnt take another stride. He coasts the rest of the way...allowing Rantanen to fly by him and score. JVR was invisible last night. And for the great effort Jake gave... how many times is he going to miss the net completely and watch the puck wrap around the boards on it's way back to center??? Most of the team looked pretty good last night... but we need these 3 high priced players to be better. Much better.

To the earlier poster(s) bashing Jake - nobody here is going to deny that his effort has been inconsistent throughout his Flyers career.

But to think he hasn't been a major catalyst in the last few weeks (since AV called him and G (and others) out for their effort), is just plain wrong.

Last night especially, Jake was skating harder and more alert away from the puck than most of our team.

What's more, he's tied with G for 3rd on the team in points this season.

Defending Jake rant over.

Jake's wheels still look good, but its hands i am worried about. just seems to have lost the ability to keep the puck or retrieve it in the corners. regularly seems to fumble puck more than i recall in past. maybe thats just me. but my eye test says skills starting to degrade a bit w age.

I agree he does seem less dominant along the wall than before (IMO it's still better-than-most, though), but I also personally think his vision and precision on the setup is the best it's been in a few years.

Seems like every game he's either assisting a goal with a pretty pass, or makes a pretty pass that doesn't find its way in by no fault of his.

Jake's on a decent point pace. I was surprised a couple times when he lost the puck. But it was usually against two guys. I think we or at I'm getting spoiled by the work on the walls. Coots, Hayes, Oskar, hell, TK, Raffle, Laughton, Pitlick even G, Farabee and Frost have been outstanding on the wall or puck retrieval. I'm getting really spoiled. I expect them to come away with the puck. TK has been a constant buzzsaw. So has Laughton. Kase was in the middle of that stuff all night.
Hart was on another level most of the night. Hagg and Ghost were scary.
I was leaning forward bouncing most of the night. Had my arms up 2 or 3 times when I thought we scored screaming " how the (frank) is that not in the net"?
It was a fun exciting game to watch. Short staffed they were in that game til the end.
I haven't had this much fun watching these guys since maybe 2012. If I'm out I Dodge seeing scores so I can stream the game. Can blow through ads that way.👍👍
Gotta love this team!

Totally agree - I get the same way, almost shocked when we lose a puck battle on the forecheck!
As for last night, I thought AV should have put Laughton out more, even if it was with mixed lines. His energy lately has been unreal, and he's been a force all over the ice.
But all in all, I'm loving the effort from the team (even on nights where we can't buy a goal). And I have total faith in AV and the staff that they can lead the ship to the promised land. Maybe not this season (though it's not unthinkable), but without a doubt before long.

For me the first goal started with Ghost's poor clearing attempt. He is still afraid to get hit and his defensive play suffers because of it.

What is he supposed to do with it? It comes out in front to a scrum of 5 players with 2 Avalanche players on top of him and he can only get to it with 1 hand, as he never controlled the puck. It's not like he had a chance to settle it and elevate the puck or play it off the boards, all he could was poke it away from the guy who's 6 feet from the goal.

Why does it seem like Leaf fans always throw flack at Flyers fans???

Why can't our fanbases unite in our disdain for Boston?
