He had knee surgery but we were not informed exactly what that surgery repaired other than his "knee". Haven't heard anything, and it took 2-3 weeks to decide to get surgery, so clearly it wasn't a full tear. Sabres would be forced to dump Asplund if/when he returns. Or, god forbid, make a trade. No one really knows if he's returning, but my guess is he'll be physically able to before the season finishes.

Zach Bogosian has played 580/924 possible games, starting his first full NHL season. 63% of the games.

Since his first full season in Winnipeg, which was 2 years after his first full NHL season, he's played 428/770 possible games. 56% of the games.

The past 3 seasons, he's played 47% of the games, inc this season.

So my question is, what do you pay a 30 year old bottom pairing, physical defenseman that steadily plays less and less games as time goes on, at best around 60% of the time?

No contributions on the PP. Avg 18:45 per game. 0.28 ppg.

What's his next contract? I think Jason Demers is a pretty decent comparison. Age, injury history, on ice impact all pretty similar. He's been healthier than Bogo, which really isn't much of a challenge. At 28, he got 4.5M.

I'm going to venture a guess that Bogo gets about 3.2M on his next contract.

I did quick by age group
Justin Schultz Pending UFA $5,500,000
Travis harmonic pending ufa $3,857,143

But would it be too far off to compare him more like a Luke Schenn who signed a 1 year 700k contract?

Brian Baldinger has tweeted out a good video about where Allen is at. It’s about points that I have made a few times and got heavily harassed about.

I can’t tweet the link but check it out

I don't really like the Schultz and Schenn comparisons. Schultz not only cashed in on a great season, but he's a completely different style. Hamonic is much closer, but his contract is as old as Bogo's. The Islanders got quite a haul for him, at that point of the trade I think he was seen as a top 2 or 3 dzone guy. At this point, I'm willing to bet Hamonic lands a similar number.

Luke Schenn is hot garbage on the ice.

My best guess, they both get 2-3 years for around 3M

Hopefully not in Buffalo...

Dahlin. Monte
Joker. Scandella
Borgen. Pilut

Can that be 2020?

Exactly. In a vacuum, I don't think you're paying Bogo more than 1.5M for a year. Free agency tax will be heavily in his favor.

I'm still not over this. I totally get it, I know he's done well..

But this is basically like living your entire life in the mountains of Asia then moving to the United States and discovering the internet. My world is upside down, and it makes me twitch every time someone is in favor of Scandella being extended.

I mean, good for him and good for the Sabres. Does he need Joker to survive? Does he need Ralph? Does he need both?

And that's after having spent a good chunk of the time on the top line. To make matters worse they had a string of injuries on D and now they are playing scrubs. Unfortunately for them this trade has gone the way that it looked day one. Nylander is still young, I guess.

I’m fine with a free agent replacement.... there are a few, not great options. But options.

My thinking was, he plays ok with joker. And will botts really let scandella AND bogo walk?

Heck I’m fine keeping Miller. But he seems to be out of favor...

Jokiharju's analytics have vastly approved across the board. His on ice impact has actually increased with 20% more dzone starts. Guy has almost as many points in almost as many games as last year, in 2 less minutes per game. The kid is developing like.. really well..

Mr. Nylander..

Still scoring at a 0.3 ppg pace, like all of his other seasons playing for Buffalo. Even though this is his first full length NHL season. His possession metrics are much worse than they were last year. His possession quality, for the first time, is positive.. at 0.9. Overall, he's developing incredibly slow, but he also has less than 50% zone starts, which is curious at best. Book's not written on him. But he's trending towards being a very average NHLer.

I was laughed at when I spoke about him being overall incredibly average. I like analytics, but they never, ever tell the whole story, or the propaganda machine on twitter can really blow up a player enormously or deflate a guy based on one or two stats.

One of the first things people should start expecting is that all situations are not created equal. There's a real chance that every player in this league can be a lot better or a lot worse on a different team, under a different coach, on a different line, and with a different partner.

All we know is that we don't (frank)ing know Richard.

One option on a player who is great (On NHL 16 or whatever the one with Brodeaur on the Cover)

Julius Honka still no contract sitting out there.
