I'm not sure why we can't be very happy with many developments lately.

Team has been playing pretty well over the last 11 games...Krueger's leadership is evident and an asset going forward.
Eichel is proving to be elite, with a complete game, and showing on ice leadership
Sam has 5 points in last 5 games, 8 in last 11
Skinner is in a slump like many goal scorers do, but has managed 5 pts in 11 games, while playing with a variety of players in Mitts, Vesey, Sheary, Larsson, Mojo
Olofsson is playing great, having adjusted to the NHL and found his 5v5 game
Joker continues to play well and look like a good vet
Scandella has emerged as a steady influence playing well after foot surgery in the offseason
Risto in playing well after his minutes were reduced to manageable levels
Montour playing well
Miller looks ok
Ullmark picking his game up and getting better
Larsson has found some offensive spark
Okposo returns and playing a very good game

The above bodes well for the future as many of those guys will be here beyond this year.

Botts now needs to fill in the gaps.
He has the assets to make a couple solid acquisitions through trades which should be cheaper to acquire than going the FA route.
