Line combos won't fix this. - kwolf68
I’m not saying they will. I just hate the makeup of that line. All three of them slow down as soon as they cross the blue line, and rarely is anyone going to the net. |

No, but it might get us a few more goals and give us a fighting chance in at least some games. |

Ding! Ding! Ding! Like rearranging deck chairs on the titanic. Nylander need some AHL time. Gus. He gone (my tribute to the Hawk for HOF). Live with the rookie mistakes as long we start to ice some speed ones. |

That 4th Coyotes goal was a direct result of a Strome faceoff loss.
Among 118 NHL centers who have taken 200+ faceoffs this year, Strome's 45.3% ranks 108th. That is a problem.

Kane controlling the puck - why is no one diving to the net to give him someplace to put the puck? Everyone just standing like statues in their spots. |
|
|
|
Is there a team that plays hot-potato with the puck more than the Hawks do? They lose it in their skates or can't pick it off the wall or if there is any physical contact they can't get a hold of it. And their constant use of one hand on stick swipe at the puck rather than putting their shoulder into the opposing player and engaging in a 50-50 battle. Put their poor puck handling/passing/receiving together with their lack of team quickness/speed and you get games that look like this one. |

It was a result of the other skaters not competing for a loose puck. |

Well Dach is a nice looking prospect. Highmore bringing some energy, he actually checked a guy, wasn't sure body checking was allowed. |

Because that line does not have the perfect balanced combo of playmaker, shooter, grinder. They're missing the latter. |

Why do they have to be one of those to skate to the net - basic hockey. Any skater can go to the net on a rush.
They’re missing good hockey sense and play. |

I'm probably using the wrong language, but it seems to me that the "grinder" (tougher corner battles guy) is usually the one going to the net. Going to the net has never been Kane's game, though DBC used to do it more before he decided to try and be Panarin 2.0 in the left circle. |

They're out manned and poorly coached- that's a pretty bad combo...

5x5 from naturalstattrick:
SAT (32-31) and SOG (19-16) - pretty even.
Until you get to quality stats:
SCF 10-16
HDCF - 4-8
And of course goals - 1-4
Heat chart shows very few Hawk attempts in the slot, high or low - mostly from above the right circle. AZ, however.... |

Fine - no grinder on the line - AdB and Strome need to do it when Kane is looking to make a play.
I’m not asking them to get involved in a puck battle - just drive the net for a pass or a rebound.
Basic hockey - anyone can play. |

We’re awful. Our roster is GARBAGE. Bowman should be fired tomorrow for assembling this abomination.
There is no coach, no scheme, no game plan, no mentality, and no amount of line combo juggling that is going to fix this mess. The roster is too poor for any of that to make a difference.
Another night watching former Hawks flash their speed and skill, another reminder of just how much we’re currently lacking that same speed and skill. It’s as if Bowman went out of his way to trade as much talent as possible while receiving as little value as possible in return.
Yet...even after watching this mess night after night....countless posters will continue to defend the GM that’s responsible for it. Smh.

His ability TO skate allows him gets uncovered. Strome just can't make any space for himself with his skating. Not only is he slow but he lacks any semblance of quickness.
All made worse cause he is not displaying any of the smarts he showed last season to help compensate for his skating issues. Seems like any time he touches the puck he is looking to pass to Kane. |
