They can only go so far as McDavid and Draisaitl will take them. They built up an early playoff cushion, but I wouldn't be surprised if they miss the playoffs. Those two are playing so damn much, that you just have to wonder if that will catch up to them. I've seen Draisaitl push 30 min on occasion
- RickJames77

I don’t think the Oilers are a playoff team.

Average teams get hot at the beginning of the season but now we are starting to see some true colours.

- Santo_44

Realistically I don't think they have the horses for it, but it's hard to count out how far McDavid and Draisaitl can carry them. I also think Tippet is the best coach they've had in a while, but he wasn't getting Arizona very far in the past 5 years either. I think they'll be in the mix for a WC spot at least.

They have a number of players who are alarmingly ineffective at 5v5 (Klefbom their top offensive D-Man is -11 at 5v5. Neal, Khaira, Sheahan are all around -10 at 5v5). The goalie, Koskinen, has been poor in about 50% of his last 10 appearances. Is he slumping or returning to form? Not enough is known about him. On November 10th his Sv% was .928; now it's .914.

Drawing a contrast to the first place Oilers, the Leafs who are trying to recover from their abysmal start that's seen them out of the playoff picture, have a D-Man who is -11 @ 5v5 (Barrie), with Kapanen at -8 and Marner at -6.

In other words, the Oilers have been worse at 5v5 than most teams (they're 24th) - including the Leafs. They are currently buoyed by the fact that both Vegas and Calgary have been worse, but Calgary is righting their ship. If it keeps up, certainly Vancouver, Arizona and the rejuvenated Flames should pass them. I wouldn't write off Vegas passing them either. That's a good team.

Agreed -

Vegas has looked very strong lately and they have the roster to back it up. They had a very solid game last night.

Agree with his lack of foot speed, same goes for Muzzin, but it's our best chance at having a shutdown pair, so, I'm hoping for the best.. Also, it means Ceci is on the 3rd pairing, which is good.

I think Holl is more than adequate for what he's being asked to do. I'd love to say that Player 'X' is stellar, but we don't have that luxury. For a guy to come out of press box Hell and step up into a top-4 shutdown role on the right-side, he's been pretty impressive.

He's 27 years old and only has 43 NHL games to his credit. He's going to make mistakes. He's going to get walked. He needs to learn how to position himself and how to make the most out of his skills - similar to how Hainsey learned to get walked a lot less frequently, and Hainsey is slower than stink in a humid room.

Don't get me wrong, I've been happy with Holl's play. I think he'll only get better now that Keefe is giving him a chance to succeed. Unlike the other coach..

I am going to say 5-2-1 to close out 2019

softer schedule, although Flams and Sabre bouncing back and Canes not easy

She does no harm.

There are plenty of people doing bad things that don't get any hate.

- Santo_44

Sadly, she does do harm.

She allows the very people who need to be converted to dismiss the message, because she's a 16 year old with no scientific background.

Let me put it to you another way:

If there was a 16 year old espousing a view that was from the right side of the political spectrum, would you give him/her the time of day? Would you consider his/her argument, or laugh it off as the uneducated views of a kid who hasn't graduated from high school yet?

Want to throw a link for that one ...should be easy to find.

In November 11,000 scientists, not named Greta, published the "climate emergency" piece that created much of this current drama. Greta is the face of the 'youth movement'. The "face' of the grown up movement has been the IPCC since the 80's and is supported by Nasa, etc.....

I have no idea why people get so amped up about a 16 yr autistic girl being a part of some efforts to improve the world. Surely we all agree we need a change in direction. If she's pushing the envelope too far who the (frank) cares ...it can't be a bad thing right?

- The Law

i guess. idk. from what i've seen seems to be 80-85% of scientists agree humans have some or a lot of impact on climate change. i think these stats get overstated.

but the 11k aren't exactly all scientists. does it change the credibility? probably not.

You know when you walk downtown and there's that guy on the corner in the tattered clothes with the ratty hat and something that might be dirt smeared all over him, including his face. He smells of something that's not quite sewage, but certainly is comprised of at least 40% waste product. And he has that sign, "The End is Nigh!".

Do you stop to argue with him? He's clearly crazy!

Why do you do it on the internet?

Kaptain isn't that guy ....he's just a guy/girl that is seeking intelligence. If we all took your words to heart and ignored dumb arguments we'd still be on page 1 of this blog.
